The Secret World Beta – Weekend 2

I was fortunate enough to gain access to the second weekend beta for The Secret World. My character from week one was still around so I headed back to Kingsmouth. This trip, instead of messing around with the zombies (which I found were part of a repeatable quest), I headed straight to the sheriffs station.

She and the others in the station set me up with a number of missions and I was off to see what the town had in store for me.

The quest system is a bit different than others I have encountered (as opposed to my first impressions). You can only have a small number of quests that you can be concurrently working on, but those that you have are set up into tiers. Each tier is basically a separate task – go here; find an item; kill 10 zombies – and together, they tell a story along with providing rewards and XP. I find myself enjoying how the questlines reveal the story of Kingsmouth, the citizens, and the different societies, and they make me feel more like an explorer or detective rather than just a hack-and-slash warrior.

But, there is plenty of fighting. After plowing through over 100 zombies (there is an achievement for that), I finally got to experience what death was like in this game – a pretty standard corpse run…

With weekend 2 under my belt, I decided to go ahead and make the purchase. There is just too much that I like about this game to let it pass by. Now it’ll just be a matter of fitting in the time to truly explore the setting when it comes out.
