The Game Continues…

Following the rating success of their season 3 premiere, HBO renewed Game of Thrones for a 4th season.

Depending on how you aggregate the viewers, the show (according to Tv by the Numbers) was up from 7% to 13% from the season 2 premiere, and up 4% from the previous high water mark.

This episode had almost everything you could want from a fantasy tv show – dragons, giants, wizards, direwolves, and of course, a headless corpse. Most of the major character and story lines were touched on with the notable absence of Arya, Jamie, and anyone who may be left at Winterfell. But other than laying out the chess pieces for the rest of the season, no major action occurred.

It will be interesting to see what Jon Snow does with the Wildlings, and if Daenerys will ever get her army together to march on Kings Landing, but that will have to wait. I'm not sure if my anticipation is higher since I haven't read the books, but I am definitely looking forward to the rest of the season and the 4th as well. And as I say every year, maybe by next season I'll finally get around to reading the books.
