World of Tanks is my Current Go-To Game

For the past few weeks, I haven't had too much time to expend on gaming, or writing for that matter, but I have still been able to fit in some quick games. Right now my go-to game for a quick fix seems to be World of Tanks.

The matches in World of Tanks go pretty quickly which makes it perfect for those occasions when you don't have much time available. I think the maximum length of a match is 15 minutes, but the battles I've been in tend to finish quicker than that (and I'm usually dead shortly after the first enemy shows up on my minimap).

The tank controls are pretty straight forward WASD and the mouse is used to point your turret, but the strategy can get a bit complicated, especially for a newbie. The maps are small, but it is usually good to try to get to high ground if there is any – or between some buildings so you have your flanks covered.

Incredibly some tanks actually have armor, and not all opposing tanks can penetrate that armor. I've shot many a shell only to hear that my shot bounced off the enemy's armor. To get to these armored tanks or to cause them damage, you can research new technologies and purchase new guns, engines, and even tanks.

In the few games I've played, there is not much communication among team mates, but I've seen some good coordination which makes me believe that there are some that use outside applications like ventrillo or teamspeak to gain an advantage.

Since my focus has been simply to play some quick games to decompress from the day's events, I haven't researched the game much, but there seems to be a few hundred tanks from 7 different nations in the game and each of these have different guns, engines, ammo, and crew which adds up to a lot of possibilities. I have about 11 tanks – not sure how I got so many, but I did buy a T18 Tank Destroyer because I figured that sounded like it would have a gun that would penetrate most of my enemy's armor.

The game is quick and more importantly, I am having a fun time playing it. It is F2P and has quite a large following from what I have heard. I would definitely recommend it for casual players, and since I am starting to do some research, I'll soon know how it plays for those looking for more depth.
