30th Day of Blaugust, I look back

With tomorrow being the last day of August, I thought I would capture some of my thoughts on Blaugust.

I really enjoyed the challenge. Pushing myself to post everyday was not easy. There were definitely days where I started running out of time to post. Other days, I had a hard time coming up with ideas for what to write about. One thing I learned was that I do not game everyday. I thought I spent time in my virtual worlds all the time, but it is much less than a daily event – I may do some farming in Wurm and skill flipping in Eve, but there is not a whole lot to write about in those events.

This exercise also got me to try new things. I started playing more iPad games and trying things out on my iPhone. And some of these games have been a lot of fun. World of Tanks Blitz and FTL are a blast and can be great ways to pass the time while waiting for real life things to happen. I want to keep trying new games and playing them on new devices.

As the month has continued, I have noticed that my posts are usually not long diatribes, but are mostly 250 to 500 words which seems to suit me pretty well. Some posts could use more focus and better outlining (like this one) and some could be better polished going from draft to final published version (like this one), but these are things that I have learned I need to work on.

I think the most important thing I learned is that I could do it. It's August 30, and this is my 30th daily post. I don't know how long I'll keep doing this daily thing, but I kinda like it. I'm going to try to continue my daily posting but I'm not going to get down on myself if I break the chain.

A change I think I will make, though, is that I am going to allow myself to work on posts ahead of time sometimes. During Blaugust, I only posted what I worked on during the day. In the past though, I would come up with an idea and might work on a post for a week or more. When I'm posting everyday, that becomes an issue, but that doesn't mean I can't have multiple posts in process on any day.

On the whole, though, I plan on trying to keep going with the increased rate of posting and see how it works. I enjoyed Blaugust and think it was challenging. Taking part in this event has made me feel more a part of the community, similar to the Newbie Blogger Initiative, and that is part of why I blog. I hope members of the gaming community continue doing events like this to keep drawing people together in our common interests.

This is post 30 in my Blaugust Challenge.

  1. Well done with the daily postings! For the most part, I only worked on a post on the day I posted it. It was also a little difficult to come up with 30 topics to date, though I was thankful to have prompts every now and then from either Belghast or another blog post that day.

Best of luck with continuing the high rate of posting, and mostly just have fun with what you’re doing. Cheers!
