Week 3 and a second loss

I was going to do my weekly top TV shows today, but got so caught up with my frustration with my fantasy football team that I spent too much time focused on it today rather than working on my post. I'll get to the TV post tomorrow.

Week 3

Well I did not do so well this week. When your defense is your second highest scorer for the week , you've got a problem. I changed up my lineup and played some guys who were questionable for the week and lucked out – they all played. That doesn't mean they did well. My QB, Matt Stafford threw 2 interceptions and I didn't score a touchdown on offense at all – though my Defense did return a fumble for a score. I still have my kicker to play tomorrow, but I don't expect that he's gonna score me over 39 points – now that would be some kicking game.

Pregame, I was projected to win the week by 3 points. And when I saw that my opponent had Julio Jones sitting on the bench on Thursday, I was more confident – how could I lose when the other team had a 32 point game sitting idle this week? I guess I found out – my team just didn't score any points. Well, at least this is the fewest I've scored in my short fantasy football career. I hope I never have to suffer this poor of a performance in the future.

One difference I am seeing in fantasy football than baseball is that each game can see players not utilized. Oh they may be on the field, but that doesn't mean they'll get a chance to catch or run with the ball. In baseball, everyone has the same opportunities. They all get at bats to try to get a hit. In football, even when a team is doing well, and sometimes because they are doing well, your guys may not get a chance to do anything. Why would they want to be passing to their star receiver if they are ahead by 20 points? Just run the ball straight ahead and get first downs – no need to score any more. And your running backs may get no handoffs when their team is losing, they want to throw it to score faster. So many factors that are outside a fantasy player's control. At least in baseball you know your guy will get 3-4 chances to get a hit.

Anyway, it was a pretty pathetic week 3 for my team. I'm gonna have to do more studying this week to figure out who to play and if I should pick anyone up from the waiver wire.
