Thunderstorms, Dreams, and a Black Desert

Waking up to thunderstorms is not typical here in San Diego. I think we actually got more rain overnight last night then we did in the entire month of February. This El Niño has really not seemed to hit here so far. We'll see if we have much rain this spring but so far we it's been more of a news story rather than a reality here in San Diego. The rain and 50° temperature made me want to call in sick, go back to bed and curl up with a nice warm cup of hot chocolate but I guess work beckons.

Lord of the Rings Online

I did get a little bit of Lord of the Rings gaming in however. The Galadriel's Dream sequence really has me pining for watching the Lord of the Rings trilogy again. It's been a few years, I believe, since last time I watched all three of those wonderful films. The main problem I have though is that I don't have a currently functional Blu-ray player.

I Need a New Blu-Ray Player

My last DVD player gave up the ghost about a year ago and I haven't replaced it. We've got a new TV that is HDMI compatible and is supposed to do 3-D, so I'll have to upgrade anyway. When I got our current TV, I decided I would get a TV capable of 3-D even though it's not that large. I find that for a lot of movies, unless they are something like Star Wars, they are not something that I want to run out to the theaters to watch. A lot of times it's much more convenient to watch these movies at home so I want to try out what the new 3-D is like. So…I need a 3-D Blu-ray player. I do feel like I'm in a vicious cycle though – I keep having to update things so that my last purchase can reach its full potential.

So I think I'm going to do some researching of Blu-ray players today to see what I might be able to afford, that will support 3-D on my TV and provide me the best viewing experience in my living room.

Black Desert Online

I also fired up Black Desert online and realized pretty quickly that I did not have enough time to create a character. As I mentioned last week, I believe it was, I don't like creating characters because it takes so damn long. Especially when I am trying to get into a game and start playing for the first time. If I'm going to take the time to create the character look the way I want then I'm going to have to spend an hour or more setting up all the little intricate details or I can just hit randomize. I haven't got to that point and Black Desert yet because I just started up, though.

In any case there are a bazillion aspects of the character that you can modify. I guess I do like the fact that I can change the color of the hair tips versus the roots but I don't know if that's something I really care about when I'm starting up a new game. I guess I'll take a look around the net to see if I can go to the beauty salon in the game to change what I look like. Otherwise I may just be a random character. I don't want to waste the huge amount of time to paint my toenails a certain color.

One part of this game I find interesting is that while it lets you change so many specific aspects of your character, you can't have a male sorcerer or a female berserker. Locking the classes to gender is an interesting choice when there are so many options for character creation.
