Six Degrees of Game (WoW) Blogging

I decided to do a little experiment today and went on a journey through some of the game blogs out there. Basically I drilled down the rabbit hole for 6 degrees looking at the first blog listed on the blog rolls as I went, and it was pretty interesting and fun. I think I might do this regularly to get a better feel for the game blogging community since I usually run around in my little puddle rather than feeling the full force of the ocean of bloggers out there. It is pretty nice to see that there is a vibrant community out there that is blogging about games and stuff that interests me.

Here are the 6 places I visited:

I started with my own blog since…why not…
I won’t go into what my last post was since you are already here.

Alt:ernative Chat

I jumped to Alt:ernative Chat where we get a post from March 22 titled Forever Alone that looks at the news about a Beta giveaway for World of Warcraft Legion. I didn’t realize we were close to Beta and only hope that I can catch up to level cap before I have even more to do in WoW. Actually, I didn’t get an Alpha invite this time around…probably because I still haven’t maxed out my main yet. Some day I’ll get her there.

Tome of the Ancient

Anyway, moving on from the look at Legion Beta, I went to Tome of the Ancient where in a post titled Have Gun…er, Freaking Giant Two-hander, Will Travel, The Ancient, on March 22 touts the speed of leveling achieved on Luz the Paladin in WoW. I’m pretty impressed since I never got a paladin much beyond level 20 and still, as I mentioned before, don’t have anyone at level 100. Based on the post, heirlooms really assisted the leveling process…I’ll have to see about getting some once I get to max level. When I get back to WoW leveling and have another go at a paladin, I’ll have to look Luz up to see what spec she used to speed level.

A is for Azeroth and Z is for Zeera

After visiting The Ancient, I set off for A is for Azeroth and Z is for Zeera. Where there is a post from March 14 called Staying Horde? Looking at playing and raiding as Horde or Alliance and how having friends in a guild can make the gaming experience worth putting up with dark times. I really envy those that have developed such relationships in gaming guilds as I tend to be more of a gaming butterfly, flying from one game to the next. I’ve never really gone in for hardcore raiding but I know there is a lot of fun to be had if you find the right mix of people.

3 down…3 to go…

Admiring Azeroth

The next stop was Admiring Azeroth which looks to be on hiatus, but has an interesting look at the changes in character models in WoW from November 2014 in the post My Mage had Botox! (Looking Back at the New Character Models). It’s interesting how not too long ago, Blizzard redid so much of the character look and feel. They seem to muck with things with each expansion, but back when this post was fresh, there was a huge shake up and not everyone liked it. Now, we are pretty much used to the new/current look, not that we had any choice in the matter. WoW is one of those games where I actually like the simplicity of the character look options. It’s is pretty easy and quick to make a new character as you don’t have to fiddle with tiny details that so many other games require. I blame City of Heroes because it had such a good character builder so long ago…now a days, every game wants you to etch every wrinkle and place every hair…just too much for my tastes.

The Daily Frostwolf – Druid Edition

Once I finished admiring Azeroth, I headed over to The Daily Frostwolf – Druid Edition where Navimie posted an interesting look at how to deal with toxicity in Warcraft. The post from March 22 titled Guildleader chores – How can you make the WoW environment less toxic? I find it interesting that wherever you go on the Internet, you are confronted with toxicity. I don’t recall a lot of vulgar speech in WoW, but when I grouped, I tended to go with friends. I can see how pugs would be ripe for foul language in a similar way to League of Legends. And don’t get me started on Eve Online…there are way to many places where toxic people infringe on the gaming world. I really wonder where these people are in the real world. Are they all just mild mannered family members and coworkers that turn toxic when hiding behind a computer keyboard? It’s not like there’s a button to press that spews insults, people actually have to go out of their way, take time away from their gaming to be crass in game. I wish Navimie luck in spreading the word on how to deal with toxicity in WoW. I certainly will take the advice and try to de-escalate the situation before I leave a group, be it a raid in an MMO or a team in a MOBA. Perhaps they should implement a new server type…PvP, RP, PvE, Non-Toxic, and the Non-Toxic would have a reporting mechanism that would get you kicked off the sever if you prefer to throw insults over playing the game.

Just McTacky

My final stoping point on my journey ended me up at Just McTacky where in a post from March 22 titled Warlords of Draenor – Month 15, McTacky lays out his accomplishments for the month and what plans he has for finishing off raid and achievement content.

Warcraft Still seems to be going Strong

On the whole, I enjoyed my little journey. I’m a bit surprised that everywhere I went covered World of Warcraft when I keep hearing all kinds of stories about how the subscriber numbers are down. I didn’t try to find only WoW blogs, but there obviously are still a bunch of people out there still playing, and still blogging about Warcraft. It’ll be interesting to see how the numbers change as Legion goes Beta and then comes out for real. I’m looking forward to it even if I haven’t given much energy to Warlords – it’s always a good thing to see such a venerable franchise bring out an expansion.
