Feeding My Traveling Bug

Traveling is a lot of fun but I don't get to do it enough physically…so most of my travels are virtual but I still enjoy the journey. I can see this as being a draw for me to get something like an Oculus Rift, a PlayStation VR, or a HTC Vive Pre, but I don't see those in my near future. Instead I will continue with what I have been doing for years – travel to exotic places, meet interesting people…and kill them in video games. The problem lately is I haven't been focusing on that. I've been spending too much time in games where the map never changes…the sights in League of Legends are nice, but I need to break out and start exploring the virtual worlds more…again.

Instagram

In an effort to motivate me, I am trying to be better about documenting my travels, and to do that, I'm starting to post pictures of places I've been on Instagram. Of course this means learning something about another form of social media – when I can barely tweet and never post to Facebook, but that seems to be a place where people put pictures.

For my first few shots, I posted images of my journeys in Olvia in Black Desert Online and today from the devastated New York in The Division. I've been all over the place in virtual worlds so I figure I will be able to highlight all the places I've gone and people I've seen…and even show some that I've killed (in video games).

14

Along with recent video game travels, I began my journey in 14 by Peter Clines. This takes place in Los Angeles – primarily in an old apartment building. Now I've lived in some pretty shabby places before, but this place has green cockroaches, doors that lead nowhere, and light sockets that turn every bulb into a black light. I suppose having real cheap rent, free utilities, and a hot neighbor who hangs out on the roof in the nude could offset some of the negatives, but Clines has set this place up to be pretty weird. I'm only about a quarter of the way in, but it is definitely a page turner. After Uprooted, I thought this might be a bit slower (and give me a chance to sleep), but I was mistaken and now I'm staying up late just to find out what the writing on the wall means.
