Morning ramble: The Cubs win and Trying Swain Mid

First Since 1945

The Cubs won their first World Series game since 1945 last night and did so in a pretty impressive fashion. They had pitching – Arrieta only gave up 2 hits and struck out 6 in 5+ innings and Chapman was throwing 103 mph. They had hitting – Zobrist went 2–4 with a triple and Schwarber added to his improbable ‘season’ with 2 more hits and a couple of RBIs, giving him an incredible production for the number of games he’s played. And they had the better defense – the Indians fumbled plays for 2 errors to the Cub’s none. They head to Chicago for the first World Series game at Wrigley Field in over 70 years (most stadiums are younger than that) with the advantage of playing the next 3 games at home.

Trying out Swian Midlane

I decided to give League of Legends another go after a while and have been signing up for the ‘fill’ role so more likely than not, I get support. In the past couple of game though, I requested Midlane priority then ‘fill’ and have played a few games of Ahri midlane. Boy, am I out of practice. So much so, that it really didn’t seem to matter if I played Ahri or Morgana who I’ve played mid before or I played someone I have never tried. With the mixed results and since I accept the fact that I’ll finish the season in Silver, I thought it’d be good to give new champs a shot.

Opening up Op.gg, I saw the following champs with these winning percentages…54.47 for Annie, 54.46 for Gallio, and 53.96 for Swain, so I decided to give Swain a try…for something different.

I’ve never used Swain but I’ve played against him in the past and he seemed pretty decent, with a bunch of sustain and that annoying bird thing. I found out that bird is his Q which drops the bird in an area to zap minions and champs for a few seconds. His W is a delayed root that I have to get used to since I play Morgana and Zyra mostly and their roots are skill shots and more immediate. I haven’t quite figured out his E but it looks like it increases his damage to a particular target, but now that I look at it a bit more, I guess it applies a DOT as well. Finally, his R sends out birds to do damage and heal him based on the damage done.

One thing I had to learn was that his ult is on a short cooldown and basically runs until I turn it off or I run out of mana.

In any case, I had some fun playing him and actually did pretty well in my first game.

We won and I’m looking forward to playing him more when I get the midlane role.
