A Ramble about Halloween and Civ VI Game 1

Happy Halloween

We decided to decorate the house this year for Halloween.  It’s always fun to see the kids come around and to hand out candy. I was really happy this year since during the last few years, I was sick on October 31st, but this year I was pretty healthy.  So, up went the decorations…the goofy Frankenstein all the little kids stared at as they approached the house, the bat and rat skeletons hanging from the porch ceiling, the lit up jack o’lanterns, all got put out for the fun of the children coming to get candy.  The holidays are officially here and I’m happy we had about 3 dozen kids come by to check out our decorations and get candy.

Civ VI – Game 1 – The Starting Turns

As I mentioned in a previous post, I started my first game as Trajan in charge of Rome. I founded the city on turn 1 and set out with my warrior to explore the countryside.

The graphics for Civ VI are pretty good.  I’ve never been a huge fan of good graphics over game play and I think from what I’ve seen so far, the game play is at least as good as the graphics.  I like the little animations of the units and the coastlines are pretty neat with waves crashing against the shore.

So my warrior started scouting around and quickly found a village.

These used to be called “goodie huts” in previous versions since they were pictured as huts and like these villages gave benefits to the civilization that claimed them.  This one gave me a boost to the Writing tech.

The tech tree has been updated from previous versions, but the usual items seem to be there for the early levels.

The cool addition for Civ VI is that you can earn boosts for a bunch of the different techs.  As shown, I earned the Writing boost by meeting another civilization.  The Archery boost is gained by killing something with a Slinger.  A coast city will boost Sailing and finding a natural wonder will boost Astrology.  So far, most of these things are something you’ll usually encounter as you progress in the game so it’ll be interesting to see what boosts things in the future.

After taking the goodie hut, my warrior found…a Barbarian Scout.

From the look of things, this guy should be easy to take out with my superior clubs…

But I’ll save that for my next entry…
