Preseason 2017 Placement

I finally played through my placement matches for the 2017 preseason and I have to say I was happy with how I performed but I’m perplexed where I landed.

I ran through my first 8 matches and went 8-0.  I played Zyra for each one and performed well even though the last game seemed like we were gonna lose for the first 45 minutes.  We won and I felt pretty good headed into my final 2 matches.  But then they banned Zyra.

I tried out supporting as Janna since she’s always got a pretty good win rate.  Too bad I didn’t contribute to that good rate – we lost, though not because of me, I only had 3 deaths and my 12 assists helped but were not enough.  I have a bunch to learn about playing Janna but she seems like fun.

The last game, though, I got to play Zyra again but it didn’t matter much.  We had a Twitch jungler, a Graves ADC, and a Jinx top laner none of which played very well.  Our unconventional team comp was completed by a Zed mid laner so I was the only AP damage.  Needless to say, without a tank or standard lineup, we got worked pretty hard.

So at 8-2 and with a starting point in Silver, I figured I’d get placed back in Silver…

but that was not to be…

What really surprises me is that not only was I placed in Bronze, but so low.  So based on the 8-2 record in placements, Riot thinks I am only better than 3.81% of the people who play League (according to League of Graphs). Somehow that doesn’t make much sense.  How can someone who just won 8 outta 10 matches be placed such that they are only above 4% of the masses of people who play Leauge.  Does that mean that the other Summoners who placed in Silver at the end of last season won 9 or 10 of their placements to end up higher than Brinze IV?  And how many losses would have placed me at the  lowest level?
