Found the Bowl Games and Escaped the Ancient City

Another day off yesterday and I found the missing college football bowl games. This year, the Rose Bowl was clearly the best game and I’m glad I got the chance to watch it, though the repeat championship game may prove good next week too. I’m glad to see a storied team like Penn State coming back from the horrible ugliness that their disgraced coaches put them through. Even though they didn’t win, they showed that they are a force to be reckoned with in college football again.

Rose Bowl

This was one of the best football games I’ve seen in a while. Both teams played well and the offenses were incredible. I really didn’t know who was gonna win until the last minute and even then, the kicker had missed 2 field goals earlier so could have easily missed again and sent the game into overtime.

Who would think that a team that outscored their opponent 28-8 in one quarter would end up losing the game?
Basically, USC won the first and 4th quarters while Penn State won the mid game. And I don’t really know how USC turned things around in the 4th quarter – they were smacked around so hard in the 3rd. And for Penn State to come out in the 2nd half to dominate so handily was a huge surprise, but somehow they did.

After watching the disappointing Fiesta and Peach bowls where the supposed 1-4 ranked teams faced off in the bowl championship series, I was glad to see teams that were actually competitive playing each other. The way things looked, USC and Penn State could have put up a better fight than Washington and Ohio State did in their championship games. Oklahoma was pretty dominant in their game too. But they were all judged not good enough teams for the bowl championship games.

Makes you wonder how the 3rd and 4th teams were selected and how to make sure that the proper choices are made going forward.

Alien: More Than Human issue 4

Aliens: More Than Human
By John Arcudi, Zach Howard, Mark Irwin. Cover by Raymond Swanland. Published by Dark Horse Comics, 2009.

This is a pretty good conclusion to the 4 issue miniseries. Things have ramped up for the miners and the android, Sereda. The damage he took in the first issue is starting to display more problems with his systems and the miners are coming to the realization they don’t know how to get out of the ancient city without him.

Red, the ‘lead’ miner who shot up the scientific expedition in issue 1 decided he’s gonna go it alone and tries to get outta the maze. The rest follow Sereda to find the missing girl but they run into the Aliens again while searching.  Sadly many of the miners are killed and we learn that the girl they were looking for is dead too.

So much for the rescue – stupid Aliens.

With his failing systems guiding him, Sereda and the remaining 2 miners make it back to the ship and get off the planet while Red finds something in the city and the last we see, he’s going into a light.

I wonder if the remaining 2 miners are incubating Xenomorphs or not – Sereda didn’t seem to do much in the way of examination so there could be more coming back to Earth than expected.

I’d give this conclusion a B- mostly for a nice wrap up of the storyline and the art that keeps me wanting to see more aliens.

League of Legends – Reached Bronze II Again

I made it back up to Bronze II with Xin as my main. He’s got some good damage output and with the right items can sustain pretty well. His Battle Cry is great once you get enough attack speed and many times, I’ve actually healed more than the support does.
I need to work on my engagement choices though. Too many times I get impatient and move into a fight without my team supporting me. While Courage of the Colossus helps by providing a shield, I need to stop making dumb choices by jumping in to 1v3 or 1v4s and expecting to come out alive. Expecially when there is CC involved.
While I typically run with a 12/0/18 mastery page, I’m starting to look at a 18/12/0 page (with Fervor of Battle) and trying for more damage to kill faster rather than trying to survive these situations I find myself in, but I think the best answer would be to learn my limitations better.
Additionally, I’m starting to look for a 2nd jungler to learn since I may not always get to select Xin due to bans and opponent selections. We’ll see how that goes.
