The Grand Tour

It’s a bit late, but I watched the first episode of The Grand Tour the other night and it was every bit as enjoyable as Top Gear always was.  Sure, there’s no Stig, but Clarkson, Hammond, and May are all there and playing their standard roles.  It was fun to see and while I’m not a crazy car nut, I always find their show and the cars they compare enjoyable.

I guess the story is that Jeremy got into an altercation with a producer of Top Gear and that was the end of the show.  Amazon, knowing the trio had good chemistry and a following, snatched them up and created they’re own show…The Grand Tour.

If the first episode is any indication, they’ve still got the formula.  They filmed a bunch of it in America and from what they indicated, they’ll be traveling the world throughout the season like they did on some of their more memorable episodes of Top Gear.

One thing I always love about the show is there are so many cars I know nothing about. They raced hybrid cars this time – McClaren P1, the Porsche 918, and the Ferrari LaFerrari, and I was pretty impressed these things flew through all the challenges with flying colors.  They also introduced their new test track where they ran laps with the Ferrari 448 and BMW M2.  Like I said, I’m no gearhead but these guys make car porn fun to watch.

I think Amazon has another winning show with this one and I’m glad to have a Prime membership.
