Six Degrees of 2017 – A Hobbit’s Journey

This is an installment of my Six Degrees 2017 series in which I take a look at the wonderful blogs that surround Beyond Tannhauser Gate.  The blogosphere is large but there are so many friends to be found within Six Degrees.

A Hobbit’s Journey

The subtitle to A Hobbit’s Journey covers a lot of ground…Exploring the vast world of writing, gaming, and fantasy…and it points to why I find this blog interesting. Iogro Merrybelly seems to have a bunch of interests in common with mine. Take the most recent post – Nintendo Might Be Adding VR To The SWITCH for example.

I am fully on board for the new Nintendo Switch. I’m seriously hoping they don’t screw up again and create artificial demand by not producing enough hardware at the start like Nintendo has done too often. Sadly, I got to my local Gamespot after they had already sold out of preorders so…to the waiting list I went…oh well. As for the VR possibilities mentioned by Iogro, I’m not a big fan, but then I’ve never tried the VR experience – I’d be happy with good titles to play in my living room with friends rather than having to strap something on my head.

Jumping back to some previous posts, when A Hobbit’s Journey looks at movies and television it mirrors my tastes and I’m sure a lot of people’s tastes in my six degrees sphere, so I love reading his thoughts. The post about the naming of Star Wars 8 – Star Wars Episode 8: Thoughts & Questions – Who is This Last Jedi poses a number of questions I was asking myself and I enjoyed reading how these questions are though out and dissected…Luke, Rey, Darth Emo…I mean Kylo Ren they’re all possibilities mentioned in the well thought out post. And while I am looking forward to the second season of Stranger Things just as Iogro is and I appreciate his exploration of it in the post – Stranger Things Season 2 – Who’s Coming Back?, after the tirade put on by David Harbour at the SAG awards, I’m mainly worried the show will take on a political twist rather than remaining the cool sci-fi horror nostalgia that made the first season so good.

As far as gaming, the blog looks at some of my favorites, LOTRO and Destiny to name a couple, and since Iogro is on the All Things Geekery Podcast, he provides the show notes (All Things Geekery Podcast: Episode 6 – Our Wishlist for Destiny 2) for the discussion of his wishlist for Destiny 2, and I’d have to agree with a bunch of what he says. For me right now, I’m just hoping to get to the end of the first Destiny game before the seconds comes out.

Finally, I took a look back to an interesting post I read on A Hobbit’s Journey back during Blaugust 2016. In Blogging is a Journey, Iogro provides 10 tips to help others in their blogging experience. Two of the best I think are #1 – “You never know when a good blogging idea is going to pop up, so put those blog ideas down on paper, or keep a digital list of sorts” and #8 – “Life happens and if you are like me well then blogging is a hobby, so don’t stress if you don’t make those post counts you wanted”. Some good advice there along with the other 8…though I always struggle to get #2 working here on BTG…someday I’ll put your advice into action.

So A Hobbit’s Journey is the first stop on my Six Degrees journey for 2017. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a blog roll or reading list of sites Iogro frequents so I’ll have to bounce back to my blog roll for my next degree…Alternative Chat.

  1. Wow, thank you so much for the ping backs!!! Seeing these are always so encouraging, so thank you for the kind words and it’s always fun to connect with other bloggers. I need to do more connecting this year and that is a goal 🙂 Always enjoy reading your blog and great stuff as usual!! Keep up the good work and maybe one day we can work on a writing project of some sorts as we do have a lot in common for our interests it seems. Cheers, and have a great weekend!
