Circling the Tower

One thing that games like Nioh point out to me is the need for paying careful attention since without it, I can find myself circling the tower as I did in this entry. Without attention it’s easy to get lost in Nioh and many other action RPG based games like this. While the game is fun and I enjoy the exploration, beating up the same guards and bad guys over and over again can get repetitive. I mean, sure…I am learning how to use the controller and what the different weapons and skills do, but I really like doing that as I progress in the story. So, the bottom line is to pay attention and not get lost circling the tower.

This is an installment of my Nioh Challenge series in which I try to get through the Nioh storyline and see how many deaths it takes me.

Nioh Challenge Entry #9: Circling the Tower to Get Outside

Last time, I found my way out of the tower – at least into the courtyard around the tower – before I was overwhelmed by guards. This time I plan on taking things a bit slower.

I start back at the shrine in the tower.

And make sure I’ve got all my best gear.

And proceed to run around in circles again. Why can’t I figure out the layout of this tower? I mean I guess I’m getting practice killing the guards but I really need to stop running from the shrine to my old jail cell and back…I want to get outside into the courtyard so I can continue – argh! I can only imagine what this is gonna be like later in the game when I’m in a more spacious dungeon. I gotta get better at this.

Seriously, I ran around for 15 minutes killing guards I’ve already killed a bunch of times…and not finding the doorway to the outside.

Eventually though, after what seemed like forever, I made it back to where the crows were and stepped out into the rain.

Rather than take on the crossbowman and his spear-man sidekick at the same time though, this time I lured the spear-man out and around the corner of the building where I could take him on 1v1.

I think I’m getting pretty good at 1v1 combat – I just need to be careful to make sure I keep it to those odds.

With the spear-man down, his buddy didn’t take long and I cleared the area.

So far so good, but these guys look pretty tough…

Utoh! They’ve spotted me…better run…or at least hope that will allow me to split them up.

Whew! I lucked out and only one followed me…

…but man is he tough.

Eventually I wear him out and take him down. I gotta rethink using a Battle Axe against a fully armored knight though – I’m not sure that’s the best weapon to use.

His buddy that I tricked into letting us fight 1v1 was not amused by my showing back up with a shiny, though dented, helmet I took off his friend so he used his Battle Axe to take me on. He was better at it than I was…

And after a valiant fight, I succumbed.

Death Count: 6

Next time, I hope to find my way outta the tower sooner so I have more time to play and try to get past these knights.
