I got my first game under my belt in MLB The Show and it was pretty fun. It took longer than I expected but I played all 9 innings.
Since it was my first game, I had to go through a set of selections that essentially provided tutorials for hitting, pitching, throwing, and base running. Basically you have a series of options in how you want to perform each of those activities. You can choose the classic method or among several updated methods and each one is pretty different. I think I ended up with classic for hitting and pulse for pitching. I’ll go into more detail when I remember to capture some screen shots – I was too focused on trying to perform, I didn’t grab anything.
Fortunately, the game saves highlights of the game and I was able to get this hit by Mike Trout.
And we won pretty handily too…
One takeaway from my first look at the game is that there are a ton of options. It looks like there are a bunch of game modes to go along with the multiple methods of hitting, pitching and such. I’m definitely looking forward to learning more about the game and getting used to the different features as I play. At some point, I’d like to try the season mode but I want to understand things much better than jumping into that on my first few games. Also, it’d be fun to try any multiplayer options that are available. I didn’t even take the opportunity to see if there were ways to play other people, but I’m pretty sure there are.
So far the game is very approachable and they make it easy to get started. I had no problems learning how to hit and smacking some balls all over the park. Pitching was also easy to learn as evidenced by my 14 strikeouts and the shutout I threw. I still need to work on the base running and throwing, but I’m sure I’ll figure things out since they make things very easy to learn.
