Morning Ramble 380: SWL, Mr Mercedes, and Almost Done with AG

Secret World Legends: High Population

I am really happy to see all the people running around in London and Agartha in Secret World Legends. Even though tis was only the Head Start weekend, I saw tons of people and I sure hope it stays that way going forward. Today starts the normal new player experience for those who did not get into the Head Start. I’m gonna make sure to get ingame this evening to see how the population looks tonight, but if the weekend was any indication, I’m thinking there’ll be a bunch of new players. I also expect the Steam launch later this summer to bring in some new people as well.

So far, from what I’ve seen with the redone tutorial and updated skill loadouts, things seem pretty good for the new player. The class system provides guidance for newbies and the Tokyo cut scenes will always be a great testament to the uniqueness of the game environment. And, all 3 – tutorial, cut scenes, and classes show that Secret World Legends is not your typical hack and slash, mindless MMO, you actually have to think and work out puzzles to progress – and I really love that about this game.
Let’s hope all the new players find those features as intersting as I do.

Mr Mercedes trailer

A few years ago I read Mr Mercedes by Steven King and really enjoyed it. Now that book, or rather the trilogy that mooknstarted is becoming a TV series and I’m looking forward to it.

Sadly, I have no idea what this AT&T thing is all about but it looks like I might not be able to get the show easily.

American Gods: Almost Watched Them All

I had let the episodes pile up over the past few weeks and had 4 sitting on my TiVo. This made the show prime fodder for binge watching and that’s what I did this weekend. I watched episodes 5–7 in their entirety and about a quarter of episode 8 and I’m glad I’m diving deeper into the show because there’s so much to figure out. From Vulcan’s treachery to the many faces of Jesus the second half of the season has been just as interesting as the first. And the Mad Sweeney episode which had very little in the way of forward progress was still really good.

On the whole, I’ve really enjoyed the first season though I’d like to have seen things move further in the story. I suppose with the intricacies of the intrigue and backgrounds of all the players it was bound to require more than 8 episodes to move the story significantly, but I think they got pretty far for a groundwork season – you don’t want everything out there right away. And I’m not even done yet…tonight I think I’ll finish it off.
I’m already looking forward to next season which I’m sure will seem like it takes forever to get here.
