Morning Ramble 390: Runaways to Secret World Legends

Today I headed back into Secret World Legends to actually run missions and I ramble about a new comic series I’m reading called The Runaways – it’s from 2003 but it’s pretty cool.

Secret World Legends: Back to SycOil

The tutorial takes quite a bit of time and while it’s filled with a bunch of cool cut scenes and gives a better feel for the game than the previous one for TSW did, it can really eat into your gameplay time if you have a limited amount. I had to set the game aside last time to deal with real life but I did make it to the Kingsmouth Sheriff’s Station after all the pre-game running around. Today Sheriff Bannerman had a mission for me and it was the same Horror Show assignment I had in the previous game. The basic idea is to run around town to collect surveillance cameras so the police can keep an eye on the town. Once again, the first stop is Sycoil gas.

I find it surprising that with inflation, the cost of gas at the local Sycoil E-Z Gas station in Kingsmouth hasn’t risen since 2013. 4 years and the price is still $6.66. While the price is the same, other things have changed. For instance, this guy is new – rummaging through the dumpster in the back…

Turns out he doesn’t like being disturbed and he packs a punch too

He’s not really a match for the Draug Warmonger who used to hang out around here, but he’s still a decent challenge for those new to the area.

Either way, once you take down the bad guy, you can climb up on the roof of the gas station to grab the camera and continue the mission.

While most of the mission in SWL is similar to the TSW version, there was a noticeable shortcut in the Mining Museum that made that part of the mission easier to accomplish without dying – not that death has much consequence.

Runaways #8

This series from 2003 is a bunch of fun. It kinda reminds me of Paper Girls, but then Runaways came out over a decade before Paper Girls. In any case, it’s about a group of teenagers who learn that their parents are part of an evil super villain organization called The Pride.

Not only that, but they seem to have super powers to some degree as well – one is a fledgling sorceress, another is a mutant with super strength, and another has a pet velociraptor – pretty cool. This issue introduces a new teen who looks like he may be primed to become a new member of the group as he meets the requirements…teenager who’s parents are evil super villains. We’ve yet to see if he’s got any powers but he does develop a crush on Nico (Sister Grimm) who’s already kinda got a thing with one of the other Runaways. This is a quick and enjoyable read and I’m looking forward to see where things are headed.
