31 Days of Comic-Con: Panel Strategy Type B

Day 12: Type B Strategy

Yesterday I worked on my Type A strategy and came up with 5 panels that I laid out as cornerstones of my attendance plan. Going beyond those panels, I start to use my type B strategy to fill in the holes. This takes the cornerstones and looks at what’s going on in the room they’re in before and after. For instance, Legion on Thursday is in Ballroom 20 at 5pm. The panel immediately following at 6:15 looks interesting – Marvel Television: Marvel’s Inhumans so I think I may stick around to see what that’s all about. Immediately preceding at 3:45 is The Strain – meh – I watched half of the first season of this show and was not impressed so haven’t seen anything since, but apparently it is still going strong – at least I know about the show. This is kinda a must attend because I want to make sure I get into the Legion panel, but it may fall into my Type C strategy that I’ll talk about tomorrow. Before The Strain is the Battlestar Galactica reunion that I wouldn’t mind checking out and it’ll give me a good foundation for sticking in Ballroom 20 from at least 2:30 until 7:15. Not bad, and as long as I can get into the first panel, I’ll have a good base of operations for Thursday.

Friday is an interesting day since from my first impression, I want to see the most stuff that day. It starts with Psych in Ballroom 20 and I’m gonna try to make sure to get to the convention center early so I can get in for this panel. The main issue I have with the 10am Ballroom 20 setting is that I really would like to get into the Stan Lee panel if he is gonna show up. That’s in Room 6DEF at 12:30 and could be pretty packed particularly since the DC Rebirth panel is right before it. So, if I miss getting into see Gus and Shawn I’m gonna head right over to line up for DC in Room 6DEF.

So basically, you get an idea of my Type B strategy. Look at the cornerstones identified in the Type A Strategy and see what works around them and if it’s worth it to stay in a room for an extended period of time.

So far, my room focus for each day is:

  • Thursday: Ballroom 20.
  • Friday: Ballroom 20/Room 6DEF early and then Room 6A later on.
  • Saturday: Ballroom 20.
  • Sunday: Room 8 – I don’t think I’ve ever spent more than one panel at a time in here but this year there are a few that look interesting to me in a row.
