31 Days of Comic-Con: Panel Strategy Type C

Day 13: Type C Strategy

On Tuesday, I mentioned my primary type A strategy for panel selection and yesterday I looked to supplement those cornerstone panels with activities in the same room. Today, I branch out a bit farther afield to proximal events. For this, you need to have to know the layout of the convention center a bit.

Based on the location of rooms, it’s often a straightforward process of ‘transferring’ from one room to another during panels you’re not really interested in. For instance, on Saturday when I’m planning on staking out Ballroom 20, I could take a break around 4:15 to run over to Room 6A, which is pretty close by, to see the Orville panel. The key is making sure to keep a hall pass to the room you’re starting from. Another possibility is on Thursday, it may be a stretch, but since I’ll be targeting Ballroom 20 again, I could potentially get over to Room 7AB (a bit of a hike) to see the Viz Media panel so I can get the latest scoop on One Punch Man during The Strain in Ballroom 20 and then head back to see the Legion panel.

These types of strategies work best if you either are a solo con goer who’s crazy or have a coordinated group of friends, but then if you’re coordinated, there are many other strategies to get everyone to see what they want to see – I tend to be a solo con warrior and these strategies have helped me over the years to see tons of panels.
