Strange Happenings

Daily Ramble #4: Strange Happenings

I guess today is a day where I found out some interesting things from podcasts.  Usually, I listen to half a dozen shows a day while I’m at work and often they’re just chatting about games or comics or news.  Today, I heard some cool things I had to check out and share since I think they’re worth it.

Revival

I heard about this title from the I Read Comic Books podcast (episode 124: Hooked on Comics) and so far, I like what I’ve seen. First of all, the first story arc (in trade paperback or single issue format) is available on Comixology Unlimited so if you subscribe, you can download it for free and if you’re not a subscriber, you can get a free trial and take a look at the comic.

I subscribe, so I was able to grab the first issue and read through it and it’s pretty compelling so far. Basically, it looks to be set in a small town in Wisconsin where some weird things are going on. People are coming back from the dead, there are beings that look like aliens wandering in the woods, and the CDC has put a quarantine on the area to keep whatever’s going on contained.

Here’s the blurb from Comixology:

Written by Tim Seeley and drawn by Mike Norton, this comic from 2012 sure seems like it could be pulled from a Twilight Zone, X-File, or Stranger Things episode, and I think it fits in well with my next ramble about The Secret World. I think I’m gonna start reading this title.

Secret World TV

Wow! I suppose this was announced last week, but I just heard about it on the Massively OP Podcast (episode 132: Filth TV) and was so excited, I had to look it up online. And it IS a real story – Secret World is getting a TV show. At least it’s being adapted for a TV show by Johnny Depp’s production company. Sure, just having an adaptation started doesn’t mean there’ll be a show or anything, but it’s a huge step in a cool direction. I would be so onboard with this. The supernatural, science fiction, horror, fantasy, conspiracy tales that could be drawn from The Secret World’s world are endless and I’d love to see them treated well on TV. Just think about Stranger Things meets X-Files…so cool! I hope it works out.
