Enjoying The Tick

Daily Ramble #7: Enjoying The Tick

Amazon brought out the first part of their new series The Tick on Friday and for once, I actually watched a streaming show on the first weekend. I’d say it was worth it.

The Tick is Back!

I just binged watched the first 5 episodes of The Tick on Amazon Prime and while it’s not the animated series and it’s not the 2001 Patrick Warburton series, it hold it’s own.

The first couple episodes missed out on a bit of the classic Tick humor but by the 5th episode I think things were starting to click. And I really liked the way they’re telling an ongoing story. The hunt for the Terror after he killed Arthur’s dad is a great reason for everyone to come together. And we see new characters in addition to the Tick, Arthur, and Dot.

The Bad Guys and Gals

The Terror is of course the main bad guy. He’s played by Jackie Earle Haley and is the main reason everyone joins forces.

Ms. Lint played by Yara Martinez, is a low level bad gal who worked for The Terror but who now works under Ramses. She shoots electricity and gets shocked by a static discharge overtime she touches something.

Ramses played by Michael Cerveris seems to be a typical kingpin who’s running weapons into The City for some nefarious reason.

The Other Good Guy?

Overkill, played by Scott Speiser, seems to be a Punisher/Batman hybrid who I figure is this show’s Batmanuel/Der Fledermaus. He and The Tick have words over the fact that Overkill has no problem killing people, and he does it a lot.

On the whole, I’m enjoying the show but I’m sad to see there’s only one more episode and then 7–10 come out sometime in the future.

Like I said, this is definitely not the other version of The Tick, but it’s the only one we have now. And I think it holds up pretty well.
