Daily Ramble 50: Loot N 18

As a sandbox game everything in Albion is player generated. Well, almost everything – there are expeditions that you can run on a regular basis to generate silver and sometimes get rewards from the Royal coffers. Today I finally got some extra loot and it made the game feel more like a normal MMO. I also finally worked my way up to mastering god number 18 in SMITE so I can now start planning for ranked play.

Finally some Loot!

I’ve been running expeditions everyday since about the 2nd week that Albion released and each day I get the basic rewards…Silver. On the first run of the day I get bonus silver and a Royal Master Sigil, but that’s about the extent of the rewards. It still makes running the expeditions on a daily basis worth while but there’s no loot. At least no loot that I’ve ever received until today.

Today I received a Tier V Expert’s Tombhammer.

It should fetch me a bunch of silver on the auction house but I’m no where near able to wield such a weapon and it made me think a bit about loot expectations.

In WoW and many MMOs it’s typically expected that you’ll get loot from every mob you encounter. Lots of times it’s trash but often you’ll get some nice items. In dungeons, things typically are assigned based on your class so you get stuff you can actually use. In Albion, you don’t have a class, only your weapons and destiny. So how can they provide rewards that are useful to you? They can’t. So they give you Silver and things that can convert to Silver.

I suppose it’s not a bad system but I am surprised that this is the first loot I’ve seemingly received in well over 100 expedition runs. And of course I can’t use it.

I’m gonna have to work on running a dungeon or two so I can see how the loot system works there.

Bellona makes 18

I finally made it to the magic number of 18 gods mastered in SMITE. Bellona was the one to push my over the limit and I actually like her gameplay. I’m not very good with her yet though.

I originally though she was a Guardian when I was playing against her since she always seemed to survive whatever I threw at her. Now I’ve found out she’s actually a Warrior and can pump out some decent damage as well.

Unfortunately, I lost the last match that pushed me over the top. Built I’m there. I can now play ranked games in SMITE.

Too bad I am now anxious about trying out ranked. I’ll do some research and I’m sure I’ll get into the ranked system soon.
