Too Many Zeuses

Daily Ramble 59: Too Many Zeuses

I made a solid attempt to play one of the ‘special’ game modes in SMITE but it turned out pretty bad. So instead of working on getting better at my gods, I jumped into Secret World Legends and had some fun helping out Norma Creed. I also read through issue 3 of Wolverine and the X-Men to finish off the first day of the new school.

Secret World Legends

As you’ll see below, I tried to play some SMITE today but ended up running into trouble so I fired up Secret World Legends. It’s been a while since I ventured into the Secret World as I wanted to let the game shake out since the move from TSW to SWL. It seems things are working well and I was able to get in and make some progress in the first main mission – Dawning of an Endless Night – and complete a side mission – They Never Stop Coming. For both of these, I needed to talk with Norma Creed.

Norma Creed is one of the residents of Kingsmouth that decided to stay at their homes instead of congregating at the sheriff’s office, but she wasn’t hard to find. She had a nice bonfire going and a big shotgun and she asked me to stoke the flames by adding zombie parts. After helping her get the fire raging, she sent me off to the beach to check out some cultists. These guys were performing some kind of ritual that I interrupted so they sent their leader after me. While they dabbled in magic and cast spells at me they weren’t much of a threat and I took them and their leader down pretty easily. So far I’ve been able to handle whatever Kingsmouth has thrown at me.

One thing I like about the SWL update is the location triggered missions similar to Guild Wars 2 or public events in Destiny 2. Basically when you enter an area where a mission starts, you are automatically told about it and provided indicators are to what to do. I ran into a few of these on my travels today – killing a bunch of Wisps and a local bounty called Beachfront Grave Robbing where I had to take out Reanimated Warriors. These little missions added flavor to my journeys and in addition to the Lore that you can find around the map kept things moving at a good pace throughout my game session.

Bashing the Inspectors

So, the first day of the new Jean Grey School for Higher Learning hasn’t gone as Wolverine planned.

The Hellfire Club unleashed a horde of Frankenstein monsters wielding flame throwers, the very ground attacked them as Krakoa, the “Living Island” rose up around their feet, and department of education inspectors were turned into monsters, but somehow the X-Men were gonna make things work. To that end, the students step up and show they’ve learned a few things even before starting school. First off, Quentin Quire who goes by the moniker of Kid Omega takes the initiative to telepathically talk with Krakoa, calming him down and stopping his attack. Kid Gladiator then shows what he thinks of bureaucrats by pounding the monsters the inspectors had become. Then the team unleashes the ultimate weapon – Matt Murdoch as delivers papers suing Kade Kilgore, the new head of the Hellfire Club, for the damages to the school. So far, this title is maintaining my interest and keeping me entertained – I hope it continues.

Too Many Zeuses

I tried out one of the new “special” game modes yesterday, and by tried out, I mean I tried to play it. The idea was that we were on the Joust map with 5 players to a team and were able to select gods regardless of if they had been chosen by our teammates. At first, we all selected various gods – I grabbed Kukulkan, someone else picked Thor, and another selected Thanos. It looked like we were getting a decent team together and the fact that the game mode allowed for unlimited mana meant that we were gonna be able to spam some pretty good damaging abilities. Then someone suggested we all pick Zeus. Ok, this could be fun…5 Zeuses at a time could be a lot of fun.

The only problem was it broke the game. We each picked Zeus as our god and the game went into the loading screen and sat there…for about 2 minutes…and then went back to main SMITE screen with no game starting.

I hit play to try to get into the game or at least start another game I could actually play but no luck – each time I hit play, I’d get the loading screen for about 2 minutes and end up back at the main SMITE screen.

Oh well, I suppose something didn’t want me to play a game with 5 Zeuses, much less any games of SMITE yesterday.
