Lasers, Gambling, and Stellar Burst

Daily Ramble 63: Lasers, Gambling, and Stellar Burst

Jumping over lasers in SWL, gambling and battling microscopic parasites in Westchester, and blowing stuff up as Sol in SMITE makes today’s ramble full of excitement.

Siren’s Song

Once I finished meeting up with Joe Slater I was off on another part of my main mission and this one lead again to a solo instance. Listening to the Siren’s Song lead me to a tunnel on the outskirts of Kingsmouth and a door. While the sewer Mr. Slater was in was just ominous, this next area, a maintenance corridor for a tunnel through the mountains had booby traps and lasers to contend with.

These were similar to earlier instances but if you head in the wrong direction be prepared to get blown up and sent back to the beginning.

Inside and past the lasers the music led to a room full of maps and notes but before I could investigate much, I heard someone headed my way.

Apparently this Beaumont guy is kinda running the occult underground around here. He’s found a magic sword and has the girl – Cassandra – recruiting living people to go along with his army of undead. He’s looking for some kind of gateway to the heart of the island for some reason and while he’s got the key to get there, he can’t find the lock.

It looks like the Illuminati have him stumped – perhaps I can figure things out before he does?

As usual, this is the type of storyline that I love about Secret World Legends. There’s conspiracies, mysticism, magic, and investigation around every turn in this game and it’s wonderful!

Making Bank and Saving Broo

As we finished last issue, things were headed in three different directions: Wolverine and Kid Omega were trying to gamble their way to funding the school; Kid Gladiator was shrunk down and fighting a battle against Brood inside Kitty Pryde; and a big ugly Brood was on his way to attack the school.

This issue sees Wolverine and Quentin dominating at the tables on planet Sin but when they are too successful, security becomes aware that they’re not doing everything on the up and up and a battle ensues. Finally Wolverine gets to knock some heads.

Meanwhile, Iceman, Beast and Warbird suit up and shrink down to head into Kitty Pryde to help Kid Gladiator take on the microscopic Brood.

Finally, Kitty, even though she’s essentially “pregnant”, fights along side Broo to take on Xanto Starblood and his army of Brood as the school gets destroyed once again. She manages to kill off all the bad Brood but Xanto incapacitates her and goes specifically for Broo – he really wants to take down this kid for some reason.

All the stuff that’s been in the works the past few issues is coming to a head in issue 6 and everyone is fighting someone and as the issue comes to a close we’re still not done, the fights are carrying over into issue 7.

Sol

Finally today, in SMITE I’ve pretty much determined I like Sol as my primary mage right now – Kukulkan is fun but Sol is even more engaging.

From what I can tell, her kit is a bit different from most Mages. She focuses on auto attacks, at least in that her passive helps the attack speed and damage of her autos. But she also has a nice BOOM with her Stellar Burst. Those two are her primary weapons, each centered around auto attacks and AA range. She then has a nice self heal in Radiance that also can be used to create a hotspot on the map that damages enemies for a time. For an escape, she uses Disapparate. This is a neat ability that starts off leaving a fire trail behind you that causes damage, deterring pursuit, then after a time, Sol becomes incorporeal and pretty much unhittable. I’m not certain but I think you can even get out of Odin’s “circle of doom” – I’ll have to test that. In any case, I really like her ability to get outta danger and I even trigger this sometimes heading into a battle so I basically have a timer for how long I can engage.

The only ability I’m not comfortable using is her ultimate. Supernova drops 8 flames from the sky that you can direct in a line. My problem stems from the fact that I typically end up moving the attacks away from the enemy as I’m either pursuing or running away. I just find it hard to control to hit someone with all the damage. Regardless, it packs a punch and can finish someone off.
