One More Turn – Rise and Fall

Daily Ramble 92: The Civilization 6 Expansion Is Coming

The first expansion to Civ VI is coming out in February 2018 and I’m glad it’s here. I’ve really let this game fall by the wayside when it’s something that truly intrigues me. I’ve loved the Civ series since Civ II and I’m disappointed in my organizational skills for the fact that I have barely spent any time in this 6th edition.

Since February is a few months away though, I can rectify this situation before the expansion pack comes out. I’m gonna put some effort into learning the ins and outs of vanilla Civ VI so I can apply what I’ve learned when the expansion gets here.

As far as the gameplay I have done with this game I know it’s a pretty large break from the previous version. Cities are no longer just one hex on the map, but rather, they grown to multiple spots and each of those squares are attackable. The different buildings also provide bonuses when you place them next to each other – now that there is city sprawl you need to set up districts for industry, culture, and science in a way that is completely different from the previous games.

Obviously I’ve got a bunch to learn. But I want to figure this stuff out before the expansion so I am not completely lost when it arrives.

I seem to be following my standard pattern with this game…a flurry of activity when the game comes out followed by a sense of being overwhelmed by everything there is to learn. Then, when an expansion is announced, I go back to try to figure out what I was overwhelmed by before the pattern starts again with the expansion. My goal this time though is gonna be to get into the game and keep up with things as the expansion comes out. Particularly since this expansion looks pretty good.

Here’s the trailer they released…

The big additions appear to be:

  • Loyalty
  • Enhanced Golden Ages and new Dark Ages
  • Governors who have a skill tree to manage and who can transfer from city to city
  • Enhanced alliances that evolve and grow over time
  • World shaping emergency situations
  • And of course, New Leaders and Civilizations

It looks like a pretty large update with tons of additions and changes that will, as usual, lead to many more hours of gameplay, excitement, and frustrations requiring One More Turn.
