The Raven’s Knock

Daily Ramble 104: The Raven’s Knock

So, I’ve hung out in the church, dug down into the tunnels under the Town Hall, and explored the area around the hippie camp, now I figure it was time to actually head to somewhere I’d expect to find psychic happenings – the Raven’s Knock.

Madame Roget used to tell fortunes or read palms, but ever since the fog rolled in and strange happenings started all over Kingsmouth, she’s actually been able to see into the future. But reading auras and being a prophet doesn’t occur all the time, fortunately I was there when the latest vision struck her and I was able to participate.

She had a mission for me and I had to head out to Pyramid Point to see what fate had in store for me.

I was already level 19 so most of the zombies that would have caused me trouble earlier in the game either avoided me or went down pretty quick. I suppose I should have moved on to the Savage Coast, but I wanted to finish off all the missions in Kingsmouth before I left. Sure I would always be able to come back, and I could rerun them anytime any way, but I wanted to get the whole town finished off. I actually not even sure what level 19 means in this game though. I gain Ability points to unlock new active abilities and Skill points to open up passive abilities, but my level doesn’t really open anything up in terms of what I can do. I suppose the main thing I’m looking at for leveling up is when I reach level 20, I gain the opportunity to adjust the bonuses of my equipment. And this is something they just added to the game. Once I reach level 20 I can set the bonus point of my talismans and weapons to focus more on damage, defense, or healing – at least that’s what my current understanding is – once I actually reach level 20, I’ll figure it out specifically, but it seems like a decent reason to push for leveling.

It was during the course of working this mission I realized I have no idea how to use the emote interface nor do I even know how to access it. I had finished off the first 4 tiers of the mission and was headed out towards one of the many bridges in the town when I ran across another player. They were returning from the bridge apparently having finished off the mission and waved at me. I stopped and thought about waving back but only managed to say ‘Hi’ since I could not find the emote menu anywhere. They did a bit of a dance and I was truly shamed. They saluted me and I had no response. I basically stared at them as I tried looking everywhere in the UI for the emote commands – finally I went online. Oh sure, they’re in the character sceen…right next to the summon pet button.

Whoever threw together the UI for this game should have thought about things a bit longer. In any case, by the time I figured out how to wave the other player had been long gone.

Anyway, after fighting with the user interface I was able to finish off the Vision mission and take one more step towards completing all the Kingsmouth quests. I also could do cartwheels whenever I wanted to now.

  1. Later missions will require the use of emotes; the tab key will offer autocompletion suggestions for slash commands such as /dance. The Raven’s Knock is my favorite place in the game – Achazia’s ethereal music playing in the background sets my mind off into the clouds.

    • Thanks for the tip – if there are more emote missions I’m sure it’ll come in handy.

The music in the Raven’s Knock is pretty cool – is it anywhere else in the game?
