Saving Arana

Daily Ramble 110: Saving Arana

Today was all about taking the next few steps in Horizon Zero Dawn. I really enjoy this game but haven’t had the time to devote to it lately but I wanted to at least take a step forward. My main goal right now is to save Arana so that she can take her mother’s spear back to her father. Last time, I saw that she was stuck on a platform above some angry Watchers but I ran off to die facing the Scrappers…my bad. Today, I’m gonna save her if its the last thing I do.

Saving Arana

Last time I ventured in to Horizon Zero Dawn, I encountered my first Scrapper and my first death. I really shouldn’t have tried to take on 4 of them on my first attempt. It was a learning experience and one that I would take to heart as I adventured further with Aloy. So basically for future reference…

Always make sure to check your surroundings before you attack anything – you don’t want to anger too many bad guys at once.

So basically I decided to stick with attacking the machines I was familiar with and needed to take out for my current mission.

These striders were needed to gather supplies for fire arrows and

These watchers were preventing me from saving Arana. This time, I also figured it’d be a good idea to stay close to where I needed to complete my mission as I found that venturing further afield lead to bad things happening. On the whole though, I was becoming fairly comfortable in taking down both watchers and striders. I even learned that they are not likely to follow you if you take a dive into a river. Sure, the machines have no problems with water but they seemed to lose a bit of tracking ability when I got wet.

Fortunately it was an easy matter to find Arana again and this time I focused on taking out the machines that were preventing her from getting down from her safe perch.

I did learn another thing however…always top off your arrow supply before a fight if you get a chance. For the most part I’ve been trying to dictate the pace and location of battles I’ve engaged in but I realized I also need to make sure I have everything I need for the fight beforehand. Arrows, medicinal herbs, rocks, anything I need, I should try to have maxed out so I don’t run out. I don’t think I really want to be trying to make arrows in the middle of a fight unless I really really need to.

In any case, I took out the Watchers that were stalking Arana and saved her from having to spend the night up on that platform. She’s got a bunch to discuss, including where she tracked her mother’s spear to, but I needed a rest – we headed to the nearest campfire and called it a night. Tomorrow would be a good day to track down the spear.
