Search for the Forgotten

Daily Ramble 114: Search for the Forgotten

In today’s daily ramble, I focus on my time spent in Horizon Zero Dawn and my search for the Forgotten. While I started out the day delivering meat and prayer beads to Odd Grata I soon had a new task – to find another outcast. As I was returning from collecting rabbits I ran into another member of the Nora tribe, and this one was not an outcast. Olara was out in the wilds though, looking for her brother. She needed my help so I took up her task and went out in search of Brom.

Finishing Up with Grata

Last time I ventured out, I picked up a task for Odd Grata and went out to hunt rabbits. They were pretty easy to take down and I grabbed her a bunch of rabbit meat and then located her prayer beads. She was grateful even though she still refused to talk directly to me. Being an outcast can be painful at times but I feel good about what I did for her and in the end, she “wished me good luck” in the Proving.

Helping out Olara

On the way back to Odd Grata, I ran into Olara who was searching for her brother.

He had been sentenced to 10 years as an outcast from the tribe and his time was up, but he never showed up in the village. Some braves went out to search for him but all they found was his camp and it was covered in blood – not good. The tribe has given up hope but his sister is still hoping to find him alive. She’s hesitant to speak with Aloy and I, since we’re outcasts, but she needs help finding Brom.

The trip to the last location of Brom’s camp is a long one and not without it’s trials.

These were good practice for the Proving and gave me a way to keep up my bow and spear skills.

They also gave me the opportunity to collect materials for crafting and trade. I’m learning that trade is kinda important in this game since I’ve seen some better weapons and armor in the trading window. I’m sure I’ll get some decent stuff in my travels but it’s always good to have things to trade to get what you need. In any case, like I said, it was a decent trip to the last known location of Brom.

Along the way, I also learned that Scrappers can shoot at you. They don’t usually start out with their guns, but if you don’t kill them quick enough, they unleash a volley of shots that can be real painful. Of course I found this out the hard way and it just makes me more cautious.

Brom’s Camp

Of course, when I arrived at Brom’s camp, it was surrounded by Watchers. They may have had something to do with his disappearance.

Sure enough, once I took out the Watchers and investigated a bit, I confirmed there was blood everywhere but no sign of Olara’s brother. Fortunately, with my Focus, I was able to follow the trail of blood away from the camp. This lead me to a knife covered in blood and a bloody bucket…something weird happened here but it looks like Brom may have survived the Watchers or at least someone did so I kept following the trail. It wound through the area and I had to fight off some Watchers to keep on top of things, but eventually it lead to a shrine just outside Mother’s Cradle.

It was desecrated with a boar’s head but the tracks didn’t stop there, they just paused. Whatever Brom’s up to though, he’s made sure only well trained hunters can follow him since the next area the tracks lead to was infested with Scrappers and these guys almost got me. With the machines down, I figured it was a good time to rest and recuperate so Aloy and I set up camp and waited for the next day to continue our search for the forgotten.
