Kelewan, Agartha, and NCAA Football

Daily Ramble 118: Kelewan, Agartha, and NCAA Football

Starting off the new year is usually full of resolutions and promises but I am trying to just make this a year of constant improvement. I’ve taken a look at the comics I’ve read and books I went through and I’m starting to review the games I played, but more to the point, I’m looking at what the coming year will hold. I’m sure I’ll be doing a bunch of reading, a getting though tons comics, and hopefully playing some fun games. All things have to start somewhere, so today I began reading Magician: Master by Raymond Feist and I finally got back into Secret World Legends since I had some daylight in which to play. I also take a quick look at the great NCAA football I got to watch on New Years Day.

Continuing the Riftwar

Today I started up the second book of the Riftwar saga by Raymond E. Feist. This is actually the second part of the first book – Magician but it was split into 2 because of it’s length but in any case, it continues to follow the tale of Pug of Midkemia.

When we last left the Riftwar Universe things were in some disarray. The world of Midkemia was being invaded by the Tsurani from the world of Kelewan after the newcomers discovered how to open portals to the Kingdom of the Isles. The Kingdom wasn’t going to sit back for the invasion though, and once Duke Borrick warned the King of the coming war, he was sent into the fray in charge of the Armies of the West. It was in the early battles of this war that Pug was captured and taken through the portal to Kelewan where the story continues in Magician: Master. There’s a ton more that happened but for the beginning of this second book, those are the main things I needed to refresh my memory of.

League of Monster Slayers Initiate

Last time I ventured into Secret World Legends I left off after finding the clubhouse of the League of Monster Slayers. I set things aside since my gaming time was in the evenings and I was getting creeped out by the music and atmosphere of the woods I had to explore to follow through on the rituals for initiation. I got an opportunity to play during daylight hours and I felt much better about wandering the woods.

Fortunately when I got back to the clubhouse there were detailed instructions for how to become a member of the Monster Slayers.

As you can see, it was pretty involved and included trips to canyons, caves, and eerie black ponds. Well, all these places had strange and creepy things going on near or in them and I’m glad I waited till daylight to search them out. I’m also glad I learned how to use the emotes since the “Spit in the black pool” step required me to figure out how to spit. It wasn’t hard since I learned about the shortcut to emotes, but once I did it, I had to fight a dude who took offense at my spittle.

In any case, the “god cave” turned out to be the portal to Agatha in the Savage Coast…and boy was I happy to get to a familiar place after that creepy wood. Somehow, the woods in Savage Coast seem to freak me out much more than in Kingsmouth – perhaps since I spent so much time in Kingsmouth.

Once at the “god cave” I was able to become a full fledged member of the League of Monster Slayers.

I also logged off in Agartha since I didn’t feel like running back through the forrest at that point.

Congrats to Georgia and Alabama – My Superbowl

One good matchup and one that turned out to be lopsided, but the finale is set – The Crimson Tide vs The Bulldogs. I’ll looking forward to the game next Monday and I certainly hope it’s more like the Rose Bowl than the Sugar Bowl. That Rose Bowl between Oklahoma and Georgia was a great game and while I was pulling for the Bulldogs, by the end, I would have been happy no matter who won…it was that good of a game. In comparison, the Clemson Tigers looked completely dominated by Alabama and it made me wonder how they managed to hold the number 1 ranking going into the game. In any case, Monday’s matchup should be pretty good. Both teams showed they can win in big games and I was impressed by both of them. For me, this’ll be my Superbowl since I’m boycotting the children playing at the “professional” level who insist on making politcal statements rather than playing the game they get paid millions of dollars to play.
