Civilization VI on the iPad

Daily Ramble 127: Civ 6 on iPad

I’m excited and frustrated as I embark on my journey into Civilization 6 on the iPad. I’m totally excited to be able to play this game, virtually the entire thing, anywhere I go. No long will this wonderful franchise be stuck on my desktop or laptop. And I take my iPad almost everywhere.

The frustration comes from starting my first game. No, I didn’t have any issues with starting the game nor downloading the app. No, it was in selecting my civilization and leader. I had previously decided I wanted to try an easy civ and started a search for the top tier civilizations. Most places seem to thing Macedonia does pretty well with Alexander the Great at the helm. Sadly, that civ isn’t available for iPad yet. So I looks for another…Persia, Nubia…the top civilizations seem to not be available on iPad.

Oh well I can start with a random civ and try to make it work. I had wanted an easier game so I could learn things quicker but perhaps picking a more difficult leader will force me to learn more. Whatever the case, I’ll throw down with a random leader.

And I got Spain.

From what I can see, Phillip II is not favored as a high ranking leader and the Spanish civilization actually shows up in the lower end of the tier lists so I figure if I can make things work with these guys, I should be able to have fun playing anyone.

We’ll see as I get started as Spain trying to take over the world…
