Roving Hordes and Waiting for a Fish

Daily Ramble 133: Roving Hordes and Waiting for a Fish

Today I had to deal with some random chance and vicious Barbarians. Primarily though I leveled up my Blacksmithing class and Fishing though it seemed to take a very long time to catch the fish for my level 10 quest. Blacksmithing was easy in comparison so I’m glad I finished that first. As for my next 10 turns in Civilization VI, I had to deal with more Barbarians. I am getting so tired of them and I’m thinking that instead of a Religious victory I should just try to kill all the roving Barbarians.

More Crafting

Today was another successful day of leveling up crafting in Final Fantasy. I actually worked on 2 classes since the first went so well. Blacksmithing is pretty much like Armorer in that it takes a bunch of Bronze Ingots. I made a bunch of those and some Bronze Rivets and various hammers and such. Nothing to spectacular but I definitely figured out how to do the crafting thing. I’ll have to see if any of the stuff I made is worth selling or if I can use any of it as I level up other skills, the bottom line is, I got up through my level 10 quest without any issues.

Fishing on the other hand is a bit more involved. While the basics are the same as the other crafting skills, it seems to take much longer. Each time you cast there’s some kind of random delay until you get a bite and then it’s a random chance that you’ll get what you were trying to catch. I caught a whole bunch of stuff but 90% of it was not what I was after. The other problem was trying to find the Nym River. One of the quests, I believe it was the level 10 one, required me to catch a high quality princess trout and I had to go to the Nym River to catch it.

I had to resort to the Internet to find where this river was and once I got there it was a lot of casting and not catching what I wanted. I ended up with 5 normal quality trout and a bunch of other stuff before I finally got the high quality fish I needed. Oh well, I suppose fishing is gonna be like that. I’m done with it for the moment as I plan of leveling up some combat classes this weekend.

Spain 98–108

Things definitely slowed down during the next 10 turns in Civ VI though things were still happening. I suppose since most of my units were killed off by Barbarians I didn’t have to worry about moving them to explore any more, but it was still frustrating. I did manage to lose my last scout to a Barbarian on a boat – ARGH!!! But now I’m also scouting around with Galleys. And I’ve gotten a bunch of my continent outlined.

I’m still not doing to well with 3rd or 4th place in most victory conditions – at least it’s still early. And I haven’t found the last player, but I think I’m doing better than I was a few turns ago. With some of my new technologies I think I’m starting to ramp up my cities a bit and I just planted my 3rd one. I’ve got one more settler in the cooker so I should have 4 cities soon and I’m working on getting them all set up for religion. I really don’t know if this is the best plan but it seems that if I want to work towards a Religious victory I need to be generating a bunch of faith.

I’m enjoying the game so far even though its more of a learning effort and I dont really know what I’m doing. I think once I get through a game to the finish, even if I lose, I will feel better about my future tries. In any case I think I’m learning about the early game and how quickly the AI can target moving from era to era. I’m also learning how painful Barbarians can be. I think next game I’m gonna build up a bit of a larger army at the start to fend off the hordes.
