First Look Review for Action Comics #960

Lex Luthor, Clark Kent, and Superman all fighting Doomsday and in this issue, Wonder Woman shows up to lend a hand. This series is a lot of fun and I’m wondering how Mr. Oz fits into the whole picture. He’s got some agenda that’s tied into the Rebirth event but we still haven’t figured it all out yet. We keep getting clues that he’s got quite a bit of knowledge about Superman and his family but I’m not sure how he knows all this stuff. It’s fun trying figure it out though.

Action Comics #960

Path of Doom, Part Four by Dan Jurgens and Tyler Kirkham. Published by DC Comics, 2016.

Last issue ended with a huge explosion as Doomsday ruptured a gas main as Superman was blasting him with his heat vision. As a figure emerges from the dust, Clark thinks it’s Superman, but fortunately before he’s smashed by Doomsday Wonder Woman flies in and pulls him to safety. Following Doomsday, Superman appears and the fight starts back up.

Stunning Blow

With Superman and Wonder Woman pounding on the creature, things start going their way. Superman lands a stunning blow (with a bus) and Doomsday hears something…Jonathan, excited to see his dad winning, yells out and can be heard by the Kryptonian hunter. With a new target, Doomsday heads out of Metropolis towards the farm. After giving a quick origin of how Doomsday was created, Superman realizes that Doomsday is hunting Jonathan and he takes off for the farm. He and Wonder Woman arrive before the beast and when the monster shows up Diana heads him off allowing Superman a moment with his family before rejoining the fight.

Enjoyment

This was a fun issue seeing Wonder Woman show up to the fight. It was also good to get a background of Doomsday which I never knew before. Tyler Kirkham definitely has a different look than Patrick Zircher but I’m getting used to it and I like the portrayal of the fight that’s going on. I think that now that our heroes have had an opportunity to take a breath and strategize, Doomsday might have a tougher fight on his hands.

You can find first looks at other issues in this title linked in my January Reading List.
I rate this issue a B.
