Kill All Barbarians

Daily Ramble 140: Kill All Barbarians

I think I’ve finally killed all the barbarians. At least all the ones I could find and get to near my territory. They have been the bane of Spain’s existence in Civ VI so far and I’m happy they’re gone. I also made some progress with Religion, city expansion, and influence with City-States and I’m feeling much better about this game.

In Final Fantasy, I’m really enjoying my time and exploration and I’m starting to move out in the world more as I have put crafting on the back burner for the time being. I do have some concerns since my guild seems to be slowing down in activity. I’m still young in the game so I worry when I get to the higher levels where a guild becomes more beneficial, they might not be there…

Decisions

The past couple days hasn’t provided me with much opportunity to play FFXIV but I did get a few things accomplished and I’m also reaching a crossroads. I think I’m done with leveling my crafting for now but I advanced my main Arcanist class. I finished off the first level of Hunting Log quests for that class running around Lower and Middle La Noscea and I also completed a few more of the main story quests and leveled up to 15. So far, I like how the quests move me around the area, so I can see all the sights, though I am starting to wish I had a mount to go faster.

One thing that’s starting to worry me is my guild. I’ve been running around with the MMO Bookclub guild but since I’m such a noob and low level, I haven’t done much with them, but they are getting ready to move on to a different game. There’s a monthly vote for the game the bookclub will focus on each month and FFXIV was an option, but it lost out in the first round of voting. As soon as that happened, I saw that participation was declining in the guild. With that in mind, I worry for when I get to a level where being in a guild will be relevant.

Do I want to stick around on the Zalera server or move to one with friends who’ve already got a guild? Beyond that, should I stick with my level 15 Arcanist or should I reroll since I’m still pretty young. Hmm…I don’t even know what the cost of transferring is so I’ve some research to do.

In any case, I’m trying to figure out how I want to continue with this game. Perhaps I should just start a new character on a new server with friends and leave this current one at level 15 if the book club ever comes back to the game world.

Spain 121–131

I think I may have rid my lands of barbarians finally. During these past 10 turns, I took out 2 Warriors, 2 Archers, and a Scout that were hanging around my territory or in places I wanted to be scouting. I also took out 2 barbarian outposts in nearby and I can’t see any more on the map currently…YEAH!!! I was so tired of having these guys interfere with my plans that I simply planned on taking them out before doing anything further.

Once I took care of them, I moved on to city building. I planted 2 cities this session – Cadiz and Valencia. Basically the idea was to start moving my territory across the continent I’m on so I don’t get boxed in by Arabia. And I’m getting annoyed by Saladin of Arabia since he’s now sending Missionaries to my cities. Fortunately, my Scripture boosts the spread of Catholicism and I’m getting close to Printing which will help even more.

I still haven’t met the 4th player and he’s winning as far as religion goes and I’m in 3rd. Overall, I’m still not doing too well for victory conditions, sitting in 3rd or 4th place in most and score wise, I’m sitting in 3rd place. Saladin is 27 points above me and like I said, I’m annoyed by him and also a bit worried he might turn aggressive.

Beyond founding a couple of cities, I moved into the Medieval era so I might be catching up a bit. I also set up a trade route to Buenos Aires which fulfilled a quest they had set for me. This was cool because it gave me an extra Envoy which in turn proclaimed me Suzerian. My city-state bonuses for Buenos Aires bumped up a bunch of production in my capital and in my soon to be built Industrial Zones. Bonus resources are gonna count as luxury resources and provide amenities as well. Pretty cool.

I feel like things are starting to tip in my favor finally.
