#2018MMM Great Adaptations Preview and Rift Prime Begins

Daily Ramble 170: #2018MMM Great Adaptations Preview and Rift Prime Begins

Today my ramble takes me back to the bracket of the 2018MMM and to Rift. The Great Adaptations division of the March Mammal Madness is a pretty interesting group of critters and they could have some interesting battles. With their ability to adjust to their environment over time, these guys have grown over the years to be really good at what they do where they live…I mean who would have thought a Platypus would be a thing? And who would think something with the word ‘Edible’ in their name would make it all the way to the tournament? These guys are gonna be a lot of fun to watch.

Today also marks the beginning of the Rift Prime server and I’m pretty excited to get a chance at starting fresh in the game. I’m looking towards rebuilding my healer mage and seeing how far I can get this time around.

#2018MMM Great Adaptations Preview

The Great Adaptations division of the 2018 March Mammal Madness focuses on critters that have evolved to fit into their environment. Be it speed, size, webbed feet, or wings, these guys have beaten out other species to fill their niche in a true survival of the fittest. Now they face off against each other in the tournament and only one will survive to represent the group. While there are some fun entrants such as the Platypus or the Tasmanian Devil, I worry that these competitors may have grown so specialized for their ecosystem that they could suffer if the RNG gods place the contest in a place that’s not compatible with their adaptations. Event the number one seed, Pygmy Hippo and number two Cheetah could go down if they fight in the wrong terrain. I also worry that most of these guys seem kinda small. Certainly size doesn’t always matter in the tournament but I hardly think the Edible Dormouse would fare too well as representative against someone from the Antecessors who are pretty large.

My initial picks are as follows:

  • (1) Pygmy Hippo (winner) vs. (16) Star-Nosed Mole
  • (2) Cheetah (winner) vs. (15) Flat-Tailed Dunnart
  • (3) Crabeater Seal vs. (14) Edible Dormouse (winner)
  • (4) Tasmanian Devil (winner) vs. (13) Ghost Bat
  • (5) Water deer vs. (12) Solenodon (winner)
  • (6) Jaguarundi (winner) vs. (11) Desman
  • (7) Coatimundi (winner) vs. (10) Aye-Aye
  • (8) Platypus vs. (9) Maned Rat (winner)

From the looks of things, I’m pretty much going with the top seeded animal in each contest but I kinda have a feeling that the Edible Dormouse may be able to outlast the Crabeater Seal. I just have a hunch that the mouse might be quick enough to dodge the seal if the battle takes place on land.

Regardless of how the first round goes, I feel this group is gonna be fighting an uphill climb even though I really like the Cheetah and the Tasmanian Devil…we’ll see.

Rift Prime Begins

Trion launches (or launched) Rift Prime today and sadly it wasn’t up before I headed in to work this morning. I suppose having a 11am PST launch on a Wednesday works for someone but not for me. In any case I might be able to roll up a character this evening and if not…I’ll have one going by this weekend.

In any case, I’m happy to get this opportunity since Rift was always a fun game in my opinion. I really liked the character class system where you could mix and match 3 souls to make a unique class for your character. Sure a lot of the endgame characters were similar builds but that didn’t mean you couldn’t play something no one else was playing. I also liked that you could be a mage tank or a melee healer. My highest character previously was a Melee Battle Mage that wielded spells and a sword…it was a lot of fun.

I’m hopeful that not only will this new progression server bring people back to the game but also that it will give the developers an opportunity to build up the game and add new content with the additional funds. We’ll see how it goes but I’m excited.
