Lamb Left and the Slaughter Began

The Angels were cruising along behind John Lamb with a 3–2 lead and it looked like they’d pick up another win in Oakland. But in the 6th Lamb left and the slaughter began as the bullpen gave up 4 unanswered runs.

Hemorrhaging Runs

With all the injuries I can’t really blame them but the relief corps did hemorrhage runs Saturday afternoon. It was mostly Noé Ramirez who gave up 3 runs in an inning of work, but that was more than enough to send the team down to defeat.

Lamb pitched 5 innings, in his first start for the Angels, and gave up 2 home runs but still seemed to have things in control during that time. The offense also was working for those first few innings, at least they got a few hits and Chris Young smacked a home run to score the three runs I thought would win there game. Too bad they didn’t save up some of those runs from Friday. As it was, they only managed 5 hits other than the home run and that coupled with the bullpen debacle was enough to let the Athletics win.

There was some good news as Andrelton Simmons came back from the DL but Justin Upton encountered lower back stiffness and sat this one out. Hopefully it’s a transient thing and he doesn’t miss much time. I suppose the other good news is that 6 Angels got hits in the game but no one got more than one. While Trout continued to be hot with another hit, Chris Young gets my Player of the Game due to his home run.

It’d be nice though to get some consistency going on the offense so the bullpen didn’t have to work as hard. Right now they just seem to score every other day or something like that.

Today the series concludes with another afternoon game that features Andrew Heaney (3–5 3.68 ERA) against Daniel Mengden (6–6 3.90 ERA) and hopefully my Angels can pull off the series win.
