5 Run 1st Is Not Enough

While the Angels got off to a great start in Texas on Thursday, it was not enough to support the depleted pitching staff. With Taylor Cole making his 2nd start and lasting just one inning, the Angels Achilles heel showed up again. Cole gave up 3 runs in that one inning and while the bulllen helped hold the Rangers for 4 innings, the team just can’t keep rolling out relievers non-stop.

8 Pitchers Used

How many nights do the Angels have to throw out so many pitchers? Sure, the team did pretty well against the Padres but then the rotation spot rolls around where there’s no starter to pitch. Rookies, Tommy John surgery recipients, and relievers are all the Angels have…and the strategy has failed miserably. What was planned on being a 6 moan rotation turned into a huge mess with all the injuries. Oh well…the season is not salvageable but it’s still sad.

On the offensive side of things, Kole Calhoun went 3 for 4 with a home run and picked up my Player of the Game. But even his nice performance, 11 hits, and a 5 for 12 showing with runners in scoring position was not enough to overcome the Rangers on Thursday.
