Reading in the month of September 2018

While I still haven’t recapped my reading from #Blaugust, and I have already been getting through some of the titles in this plan, I wanted to layout the books I planned on reading in September.

Book Clubs

Mysterious Galaxy – my local book club is reading Murder By The Book by Rex Stout. This is a mystery and while I’m not usually into this genre I do try them out whenever the club read one.
Sword and Laser – the first of my Goodreads clubs is reading a classic of the golden age of science fiction – Slan by A. E. Van Vogt. This was written back in the 40s so it even predates the Asimov I’ve been reading.
Science and Inquiry – this non-fiction group is looking at Other Minds: The Octopus, the Sea, and the Deep Origins of Consciousness by Peter Godfrey-Smith and it seems like it’ll be pretty interesting since I’ve always liked octopi.
The SciFi and Fantasy club is reading 2 books this month…the first is The Calculating Stars by Mary Robinette Kowal who is a writer I’ve followed on a podcast for years but have never read before. I’m looking forward to seeing what a complete book is like from her since I’ve heard tons of her writing advice and prompts. The other book they covering this month that I’d like to get to is The Poppy War by R. F. Kuang. At first glance this sounds a bit like a Hunger Games set in Asia but I don’t really know much about it.

Continuing Reading…

  • The King’s Buccaneer continues Raymond E. Feist’s Krondor’s Sons Series and finishes that series off.
  • Foundation and Earth by Issac Asimov is the final novel in that classic series and I’m looking forward to the conclusion.

Self Development/ Productivity

The Pledge: Your Master Plan For an Abundant Life by Michael Masterson. This is a book that I found through links from someone during #Blaugust and it looks really good.

Hopefully I’ll be able to get through all these during September but I kinda feel like 8 books might be a bit much but then a few of these are kinda short so that may help.
