Starting Over Again

Ramble #1: Starting Over Again

Once again I am itching to get my ramble on and there is plenty to babble about. But then, I don’t want to overwhelm myself so I’ll keep this short as I start back in and I’ll take a look at a couple things I feel are relevant today. The first is a quick look back at the Weekly Marvel New Releases so I can pick out which comics I want to add to my pull list for the week and the other is a look ahead to the World Series.

Making my Weekly Marvel Picks

With so many issues yesterday that attained my “Top Comic” threshold of an 8.5 rating with 3 or more reviews on Comic Book Roundup, I’ve got plenty of good comics to pick from. But then I’m not even sure I’m gonna add all those top comics since there are other event related issues I’m interested in.

The first comic I want to add to my pull list this week from Marvel is Avengers: No Road Home #10 by Al Ewing’s Jim Zub, Mark Waid, and Sean Izaakse. I’ve really enjoyed this series, particularly with the addition of Conan the Barbarian. I just wish more of the Conan stories were included in Marvel Unlimited. Hopefully more will come soon, but this issue closes out the No Road Home story and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens in the final confrontation between the Avengers and Nyx.

The next comic I want to add is also a continuation of an event…War of the Realms #2 by Jason Aaron and Russell Dauterman. With Malekith bringing the battle to Midgard, Earth’s heroes are gonna bring out all the guns to defend their homes. I enjoyed the first issue and the Journey Into Mystery from last week so I’ve gotta keep this event on my reading list. I think I might even include the Punisher and the War Scrolls issues to get the full feel for the invasion defense.

And while I’m at it, I gotta find out what’s up with Thor now that he seems to be stranded away from Midgard with no known way to get to Earth to get in on the fighting. Thor #12 by Jason Aaron and Michael Del Munro looks like a good one too.

So even without grabbing all the top comics this week, I’ve selected 5 issues I want to add to my pull list. Perhaps I’ll read more but I think that’s a good start.

West vs. East

Well, it’s another West vs East Coast battle and this one is for all the marbles. While I really don’t consider Houston to be on the West Coast, they ARE somehow in the American League West and they are the AL representative in the World Series. They also won the most games during the regular season and smashed my team, the Angels, 14 outta 19 games.

The face off against the best current team in the National League, the Washington Nationals. I sure wish I would have placed a bet on these guys 50 games in when they were bottom feeders. No one gave them a serious chance of having a winning record, much less making the playoffs and the World Series. They’ve won 6 in a row right now and they certainly look like their on fire.

Will they be able to take down the best team in baseball? I’m not so sure. Both teams have some incredible pitching but Houston has been here before and they actually entered the season expecting to make it back to the Series.

Regardless, I’m looking forward to some good baseball.

It’s a Wrap

So there you have it. I’m getting back on the rambling horse and hopefully I’ll be able to hold on for a while. And hopefully these posts are at least a little bit interesting.
