Balance

Ramble #7: Balance

That title is a strange one since I was kinda heading towards it when coincidence struck. I’ve been using an Oura ring for years now and loving it. It’s a great fitness tool that works kind like a Fitbit but I don’t lose it since it’s on my finger. It tracks my steps, my sleep patterns, my heart rate, and each day it provides a breakdown of where I am physically. I’ve been kinda down lately since, like I mentioned, I felt like I was fighting off illness, so my overall rating and my Readiness ratings have been kinda low. Also, as usual, my Sleep rating isn’t as high as I’d like since I typically only pull off about 5-6 hours of sleep (I really need to work more on that). Where I usually excel is my Activity rating where I get my 10k steps in on most days and work towards reducing my inactivity, but that’s another post. In any case, that’s a long introduction for why I think the Balance title fits today…I already had plans to post about the Qui-Gon Jinn comic when I woke up this morning and my Oura ring tells me to “Strive for Balance” today.

Totally strange, but perhaps I should listen and make this a day where I try to find balance in my life and balance in the Force. We’ll see how that goes.

Oh yeah, and the World Series keeps marching on so I ramble about that too.

Astros Win 3 In A Row

After the first 2 games of the Series I was sure this World Series was gonna be exciting, but it’s gotten a bit stale. Each game has been pretty one-sided and the home team just can’t seem to get anything going. Of course we’ll see if that consistency remains with game 6 back in Houston but I kinda like ups and downs in the Series. This one is just a series of streaks.

Gerrit Cole got himself back on track and looked like the dominating pitcher he is, Houston’s offense reasserted itself again and they scored in bunches. Overall, the Astros look like the team that won 107 games during the regular season again.

Washington did fine but I think they’re facing a monster of a team. They put up some decent attempts and struggled to break through on Cole, but he kept shutting them down whenever they started making headway. I’m sad for the Nationals fans who did not get to see them win at home in the Series and quite possibly won’t get to see them win again this year.

As for balance in the Series, right now it is all out of whack with Houston dominating the last 3 games and looking to finish it off at home with one of, if not THE best pitchers in the American League taking the mound in the next game. The only chink in the armor I see is that Verlander seems to choke in the World Series so perhaps Washington has a chance.

I’ll definitely be watching to see how this all plays out and at least for the next game, I’m kinda rooting for Washington.

Balancing the Force

Star Wars: Age of Republic: Qui-Gon Jinn #1 Balance
by Jody Houser, Cory Smith, and Walden Wong.
Published by Marvel Comics , 2018.
From the look of things, the Age of Republic series is comprised of a bunch of single stand-alone issues focusing on different characters in the Star Wars saga. Looking at the enigmatic Qui-Gon Jinn, this issue focuses on events that took place before the Phantom Menace and before Qui-Gon meets Anakin and they point to the importance of balance in the Force for Jinn. I enjoyed the issue and anything that expands my knowledge of the Star Wars universe is definitely welcome. This is a great issue and I rate it a Must Read

It’s a Wrap

Balance is an important thing for many aspects of life. As my Oura ring pointed out, I need sleep balance. As Qui-Gon and Yoda pointed out, there needs to be balance in the Force. As I try to strive for, there should be balance in life focus so I don’t focus too much on work or play. As far as MLB, there can be only one World Series winner so there’s only so much balance that can happen but I’m at least looking for a balance in the competition so we can see some good games.

The bottom line I think for me today is to “Strive for Balance” as my Oura ring suggested. I just hope I can push myself a little bit in that direction every day.
