Even though this is the March Mammal Madness, we have quite a few non-mammalian comptetitors in the final eight. The Gopher Tortoise, the Trumpeter Swan, and the Sawfish have proven their worth in this tournament and have shown they deserve to be here.

The Results

The full listing of the results can be found at the tournament wakelet (https://wakelet.com/wake/351c11fb-8cd1-44bf-8831-6e3cf86f827d) but below I list of the definitive outcomes of each of the four battles.

Pygmy Hog vs. Raccoon Dog

On the wat to this engagement, the Pygmy Hog rolled over the Southern Ninguai, the Finlayson’s Squirrel, and the Tree Hyrax. I could have seen the Hyrax winning since only the intervention of an Elephant secured victory for the Hog.. The Raccoon Dog, who I’ve been pulling for, triumphed over the Norther Short-Tailed Shrew, the Island Fox, and the Pudu.

#TeamRaccoonDog heads to the Final Roar as the Pygmy Hog is caught in a snare.

Trumpeter Swag vs. Gopher Tortoise

The Swan pulled off a dramatic upset as he beat out the #1 seeded Camel in the last round while the Tortoise simply had to out last the Common Cuttlefish. In this battle, the two face off in a Coniferous Forest which isn’t too beneficial for either critter.

The first non-mammal advancing to the Final Roar is the Gopher Tortoise.

Sloth Bear vs. Brown Hyena

I’ve been #TeamBrownHyena from the start but this could be his toughest battle. Tonight’s arena is a Desert Grassland which is beneficial for the Hyena so perhaps he has a good chance of pulling off the upset.

#TeamBrownHyena advances with help from the villagers in the Desert Grassland as they take down the larger Sloth Bear while the Hyena sneaks away.

Gorilla va. Sawfish

The last battle of the night sees the #1 seeded Gorilla take on the #3 seed, and last of the non-mammal competitors, Sawfish. And I’m thinking the ecosystem of the battle could creat a major issue for the combatants (at least one of them).

The arena for the battle is the Tropical Pine Forest on the Western slopes the Barisal Mountain Range in Southern Sumatra…not too good for the Sawfish. I wouldn’t even show up if I were the competitor. Fortunately, the Sawfish can live in fresh water for a time. Unfortunately he has to face the Gorilla.

The last Final Roar competitor is the Gorilla.

The Final Roar is on Monday

It’s a Wrap

I made it to the Final Roar with both my favored teams – #TeamRaccoonDog and #TeamBrownHyena but Monday things are gonna have to resolve themselves one way or the other. One of my favorites will make it to the finals while the other falls by the way side. I’m thinking it will be a monumental battle and I’m too torn to try to decide who I’m gonna root for…I think I’m just gonna hope for a good match.
