Finally My Turn Is Complete

It seems like it’s taken forever to get back to my turn but that’s really only because I have been too busy that I forgot it was my turn for the Civilization VI Succession Game. Oh well…I am finally finishing my turn and…here it is.

Finally My Turn Is Complete

No sooner do I take over the reigns of power in Good Ole England but Cleo sends a missive asking to adopt an Open Borders agreement with her for a whopping 7 gold. I know we used to be friends but from what I’ve heard from the previous administrations she hasn’t been too friendly lately so I turned her down. Perhaps once I get a feel for the state of the world I may revisit this agreement, but for now I don’t want her to take advantage of my having just returned to power.

With my first diplomatic act as Prime Minister out of the way, I turned towards the lifeblood of the Empire…trade. Stoke-Upon-Trent gets a trade route, London gets a trade route, and I even set up one of our newly acquired cities – Ur – to begin training a new trader. I’m thinking regardless of wether we target a scientific or a cultural direction, trade will always be important. And I like having roads built…Ur looked kinda lonely out there by Gilgamesh.

Along with trade, science is key to the advancement of our civilization so I am pleased that in my 2nd turn (302) our scientists have discovered Advanced Flight. This will give us the ability to build Airports, Fighters, and Bombers, and should make anyone that wants to mess with us think twice. A concern popped up though in that I realized the Americans are really pushing science. The mighty British Empire is comfortably in the lead in science with 51 technologies researched but Roosevelt of the U.S. is generating 16 more science a turn. They’ll eventually catch up with that kind of output so I’m glad my predecessors calmed down the dogs of war. We need to kick start our science because even though we might be building a space port in the 19th century, we need to be able to keep ahead of the Americans if they start to get belligerent…and they technically are in the Atomic Era with us.

Finally, just to show that I am a well rounded leader, I turn towards culture and start building an Archaeological Museum in London to encourage tourism and show off how wonderful our British Empire truly is.

In the year 1868, Teddy Roosevelt makes a demand.

Give me 1 gold and 4 gold per turn for the next 30 turns or… Well, there was no OR but it sounded like Teddy was asking for something I’m not sure he could force us to give. I knew they were advancing quickly in the scientific arena but I certainly did not want to set a precedent by giving in to bullies. I refused and will have to see what threats he throws our way as he throws a tantrum. As things look, he’s trying to expand so I’m not really sure what he expects will happen if he tries to ‘demand’ more from us. I mean, he’s seen what we did with Gilgamesh and I’m sure that even with his advances in science, he’s not gonna be able to match our current advantage for many turns.

In the year 1870, on the turn of 306, a shining star arrives in London as the Great Scientist, Mary Leakey makes her presence known. She’s there to head up the archaeological museum of London which will be opening in a few years. We look forward to her work with artifacts and antiquities.

1874 comes around and we finish our research into Combustion and now can roll out tanks. Anyone want to mess with us now??? Anyone??? We also start research on Combined Arms. I like the idea of being the only nation on the planet that can see uranium. Perhaps we can grab it all before anyone else even learns of the possibilities.

Finally, in 1876, there’s a diplomatic deal I don’t quite understand but think it might look good on the world stage. Pedro II offers us 15 gold to get a 30 turn supply of pearls. We’ve got plenty of pearls so it wouldn’t be any kind of hardship on our part and I’m not really worried about Brazil messing with us so…I go ahead with the deal and perhaps that will start getting us back into the good graces of the rest of the world. He didn’t look too excited by our acceptance, but I think it’s a positive step. He still shows us as ‘denounced’ but I think we’re getting to him slowly.

And as the sun sets on my time as Prime Minister, Gilgamesh shows up to denounce me once again.

I’m not really sure what he gets out of it. If he’s trying to provoke me, I’m not taking the bait. I’ll just laugh at his words as I build up my tanks and bombers to deal with him if he tries anything. Oh yeah, I guess the British occupies one of his cities because he lost it to us during the last war. Guess he should think twice before starting another attack on us.

It’s a Wrap

I am gonna make every effort to keep up with the pace of things going forward and not allow life to intrude upon this succession game any further. Sorry to my fellow Prime Ministers for the delay.

Anyway…good luck Kanter on your reign and let’s win this thing! The saved game is in the usual place.

  1. Nice RR, as you say — pretty well rounded! Although definitely a concern if America is starting to outpace us on research points. Probably something we’ll want to do something about!!
