Secret Messages and Spooky Gaming

Secret messages and spooky gaming are on tap for today. Ok, it’s not really scary yet, but Secret World Legends definitely gets a bit creepy, and that’s part of what keeps me coming back. As far as the messages go, we get more confirmation that there is a traitor that plans on harming the Atreides family.

A Secret Message

As mentioned, the Missionaria Protectiva spent many long years preparing the way for the Bene Gesserit on Arrakis. Once again, in this chapter, we learn of how their influence has impacted things relevant to the current situation.

The wise choice of the Duke to set up his headquarters away from where the Harkonnen had their capital allowed Lady Fenring, a Bene Gesserit sister, to leave a warning message for Jessica. Once again, there is an indication that a traitor is within the household of the Duke, and Harkonnen treachery is afoot.

Luckily, as we saw in the previous chapter, Paul was able to escape the most recent trap, but you can bet there will be others. With this warning, the information from the Shadout Mapes in chapter 9, and the hunter-seeker Paul escaped, it is incumbent upon Paul to consult with his father so that the whole family is aware of the dangerous situation they are in.

A bit less impressive than previous chapters, this one only gets a Read rating.

October Precursor

As I usually do this time of year, I have a hankering for some Secret World Legends. It seems I have a strong tendency to ‘get in the mood’ for some mysterious paranormal gaming right before Halloween, and SWL fills that ticket.

So I created a new character.

I decided to go with a Warlock as my starting class so I can get the Blood Magic primary skillset and the Assault Rifle secondary. These two, while both are healing set, make a pretty good combination to start off the game and give a bit of survivability that I’m not sure other decks provide.

Also, I like the idea of having some form of magic in a paranormal MMO.

So…Penelope “Chicken Noodle” Sinclair is born.

She’s an Illuminati since I seem to favor that secret organization most, and she is ready to get going.

One thing I have to say about this game – it is nearly impossible to pick a character name. Character customization takes a while, but it’s the choice of names that ends up taking forever. I’m pretty sure I went through 50 different names, at least before I got one I wanted. I was close to deleting an old character who’s name I liked so I could reuse it, but I finally got Chicken Noodle.

Anyway, Noodle and I marched through a bunch of the tutorial missions, and she leveled up to 2, which doesn’t mean much in SWL terms, but it at least signals progress.

I’m looking forward to running around Kingsmouth again, and hopefully, I can get past the Egypt setting this time around. One thing I am gonna try out is swapping from AR to another weapon before Egypt since I’m thinking part of the reason I fall off in Egypt is because I’m shooting cultists with a rifle – it might be better to smash them with a hammer, dice them up with a sword, or magic them to death…just thinking.
