A Day of Baseball, Jack Murphy, HBOMax, and Hulu

From the Dodger to Jack Murphy Stadium, from HBOMax to Hulu, today was a day full of variety. The Dodgers kept their hopes alive in the MLB playoffs while Duke Leto was clearly outnumbered in his defense of Arrakis. I’m enjoying this rambling style so far, and I hope to keep it up. Anyway, here’s the rundown…

The Rundown

  • LA Wins the Western World Series
  • Dune 24
  • SWL Game Session 8
  • Day 2 and another two games without a troll or AFK
  • Run 3.67 miles – Jack Murphy Stadium
  • Started watching Harry Potter 2 on HBOMax
  • Started watching Only Murders in the Building on Hulu

The Goods

Western World Series

After 168 games, the Los Angeles Dodgers have finally surpassed the San Francisco Giants and continued in the MLB playoffs.  Very few people would have expected the Giants to last this long when the 2021 season began, but they almost dashed the hopes of the defending World Champion Dodgers.  Regardless of how it ended, the Giants had a great season.

Overwhelming Force

In Dune chapter 24, we learn how completely crushed the Atreides were in the fight for Arrakis.  Between the Harkonnen and the Emperor, Thufir Hawat estimates there were so many soldiers arrayed against the Duke’s forces that it will take 50 years of the income from the planet to pay for all the ships, space guild fees, and fighting men that showed up to destroy Leto.  He had no chance.

Level 9

After picking up my shotgun yesterday and acquiring the skill to use the new weapon, I was finally able to pick up Both Barrels today, which is one of the primary abilities in the shotgun skill set.  This shot causes damage in an AOE and gives me some oomph to my shotgun in Secret World Legends.  As I advanced to level 9, I also learned that I will need to get up to 12 before continuing the main story mission.

Frustration Free League

I have to say that League of Legends is a fun game when I’m not trying to overcome trolls and people trying to ruin the game.  I’m still encountering players who dominate the game because they have a higher skill level, but in Flex, the players opposing such a higher skilled player tend to band together to try to overcome the skill difference.  It’s refreshing to see the game working the way I expected when I started playing.  Hopefully, this enjoyment will continue.

Remembering Jack Murphy Stadium

My run today carried me 3.67 miles which was plenty to traverse the distance between the San Diego Zoo and what used to be Jack Murphy Stadium.  When I first moved to San Diego, both the San Diego Chargers and the Padres both played at Jack Murphy, and I went to many games there for both them and the San Diego State Aztecs.  Today though, the stadium is gone, replaced by what will soon be a stadium for a different kind of football – soccer.  After rounds of bilking the taxpayers for stadium upkeep, the Chargers finally left town, and the Padres got a new downtown stadium, and poor Jack Murphy got name changed multiple times and ultimately voted to be demolished and replaced.  It was a great stadium while it was around, at least.

The Chamber of Secrets

After watching the first installment of the Harry Potter series last week, I figured it would be nice to run through them all, and while I’ve watched the first one a bunch of times, I haven’t really seen the rest much after their first viewing.  So far, I’m enjoying the trip back through the story, but I had to call it quits when confronted with the mandrake crying – I don’t know how I managed to survive that scene in the movie theater with uncontrollable audio.  As it was, I muted till the scene was over and then called it a night.  I’ll try to watch the rest tomorrow, but I’ll say that I am impressed by how well things hold up after all these years.

I Love Steve Martin and Martin Short!

Three Amigos is one of my favorite comedies of all time, and two of the 3 amigos star in Only Murders In The Building, and I am loving it.  The first episode sets up the premise of a group of true-crime podcast junkies who live in the same apartment building in New York when a fellow resident is found dead.  Of course, the police conclude it was a suicide, but Martin Short, Steve Martin, and Selena Gomez think otherwise…let the hilarity commence.  Ok, it may not be overly comedic, but they certainly hooked me with the first episode, and I’m looking forward to more.

It’s a Wrap

As I continue this style of rambling, I am starting to realize that I have a pretty diverse time on most days. I spend time watching movies and tv shows, playing MMOs and MOBAs, watching baseball and running, and of course, I’m reading through Dune. I enjoy seeing all the stuff I’ve been engaging in for each day, so I think I’m gonna keep up with this rambling for a while. In any case, I think the day was good, and I hope you all had an interesting and enjoyable day as well.
