ArcheAge is Unchained

The Wild Card games are over, and we are set to march forward with the tournament proper. We’ve now got 64 teams to face off and have already seen some exciting contests. The big question is how Guild Wars 2 will come back after scoring a ONE in their 1st-quarter.

Regardless of how they perform, today is the kickoff of the Terraria versus ArcheAge battle, another 8 versus 9 seed, and what looks like it could prove to be a close battle…based on their Metacritic scores.

Around the Tournamemt

  • Europa comes on Strong

In the third quarter, Europa Universalis IV comes on strong with a solid roll of 63 out of 85.  They were the underdog in this quarter, showing a bit less support from blogs and a lower population than The Division 2.  TD2 had 95 possible points to start with and ended up rolling a 35, so while they still scored 24 points in the quarter, their lead has been cut down to a single point.  The Division leads 70 to 69 over EU4.

  • Guild Wars 2 stumbles again!

I am starting to think that GW2 is not interested in this tournament.  In the first quarter, they rolled the first ONE that was delivered in the tournament, and in this 2nd-quarter, they had a possible target of 95 since they have solids YouTube, Twitch, and Reddit support.  They ended up rolling a 10!  So with Guild Wars scoring a single 21 for the quarter, Legends of Aria takes advantage again by rolling a 64 out of 80.  LoA leads GW2 at the half, 48 to 41.

The Pre-Game Warmup

Terraria is a 2-d sandbox action-adventure game that was released in 2011.  It includes exploration, crafting, mining, survival, and tons of different styles of gaming.  My understanding is that it takes a lot from Minecraft and throws it into more directed gameplay in 2-d.

ArchaeAge is a sandbox/theme park MMORPG that was released in 2014 in North America. It previously came out in Korea in 2013, where it was very successful. Crafting, housing, first and third-person combat, and farming are all featured. There’s even a unique criminal justice system that adds additional flavor to this game.

The First Quarter

Terraria comes in with an 83 Metacritic score, so they’re the favorite.  They hold a 3-point rating lead over ArcheAge, which has a target of 80.  These guys are pretty close, so this should be an exciting battle.

The Rolls

Terraria rolls 12, which gives them a score of 21 and is not the best, considering they could have scored a lot higher with their target of 83.  AA rolls a 71, taking advantage of the poor showing of Terraria to score 27 and take a 27 to 21 lead in the first quarter.

Wrapping it Up

Falling behind in the first quarter is not the end for Terraria, but a 6-point deficit is not a good place to be when the expectation was for a win.  We’ll see how well Terraria can pick up some steam or if ArchAge can become unchained and march to victory.

Next up, tomorrow, I’ve got the kickoff of the battle between Champions Online and The Witcher 3.
