The Witcher Takes the Lead!

Today had some excitement in the tournament as The Witcher came back from its woeful 1st-quarter to take the lead in the 3rd. We also saw ArcheAge score the highest score so far in the tournament.

  • The Witcher 3 Moves Ahead

After the first half, I am impressed that the favorite, The Witcher, has made it to the lead in their contest. Champions Online had put up some good scores, but The Witcher 3 showed why it is favored. They threw down a roll of 94 out of a possible 95, indicating that its Steam score, blogging presence, and population are clearly superior to Champions Online.
With the 94, The Witcher scores 29 points in the 3rd-quarter to Champions’ 23. And the favored game comes from behind to take a 73 to 70 lead heading into the final quarter.

  • ArcheAge Dominates

Number 9 seed, ArcheAge, was the underdog not only in seeding but in my prediction. I really thought that it would have a difficult time against Terraria. Terraria is such a well-regarded game, and with the troubles, AA has had over the years, I thought it would struggle even in this first round. Instead, ArcheAge dominated Terraria.
Starting with a 6-point lead in the 1st-quarter, ArcheAge never looked back. They outscored Terraria by 6, 2, and 6 and then cruised to victory, going even in the final quarter. They were clearly ready for this tournament.

Wrapping it Up

With one match left to be resolved in the 8 versus 9 battles, I think the first round has been a success. I’ve been surprised by some of the results, and the RNG gods have had some fun, but I am pleased with how things are turning out.

Next up, I’ve got the finale of the last battle of the week between The Witcher 3 and Champions Online. The Witcher has come back to take the lead heading into the 4th quarter and are the clear favorites.
