Daily Ramble for June 23, 2022
My rambles today take me to Anaheim, Summoner’s Rift, and Mars and feature a few stars…Shohei Ohtani, Janna, and Wilson Kime.
The Rundown
- The Pitcher
Well, Ohtani showed what he could do with the bat on Tuesday by smacking 2 home runs and knocking in 8 RBIs. Yesterday, he showed what he can do on the mound by throwing 8 innings of shutout ball. He also fanned 13 in the game and was pretty much unhittable. The Angels won 5-0 with his pitching effort, but even though they scored 11 on Tuesday, they lost. Hopefully, they’ll get back on their winning ways and make a push to reach .500 ball by the All-Star break. That would give them a decent foundation to play for a Wild Card spot in the second half. If they can play like they did for the first month of the season, they’d have no problem, but if they play more like they did in the second half of May and the first half of June, it’ll be a really long season.
- The Wind Walker
Janna has become my go-to champion in League of Legends. She’s a pretty fun to play enchanter that has some decent shielding and abilities that help her protect her teammates. My favorite, of course, is her Howling Gale, which spins up a tornado and sends enemy players in to the air. More than that, I’ve come to enjoy her mobility which makes my other main support champ, Zyra, feel very slow. Anyway, I am putting together a 65% win rate with her right now, so I’m pretty happy about it. Too bad she’s getting nerfed in the next patch.
- The Third Person on Mars
I started reading Pandora’s Star yesterday, and I loved the Prologue. Wilson Kime is set to be the 3rd person to set foot on Mars, and some interesting things happen that really set this book rolling for me. As a fan of NASA, SciFi, going to Mars, and where this book seems to be heading, I expect I will get quite a bit of enjoyment out of it’s 900+ pages. There’s also a bunch of other titles that PeterF. Hamilton has set in this Commonwealth Universe that look interesting as well. This could be my series of the Summer.
It’s a Wrap
Looking forward from today, I’m hopeful Shohei gets some more help from the rest of his team, and he and Trout go on a tear to climb back into the Wild Card race. I’m also hopeful that either the nerf to Janna won’t be too bad, or I can find another champion to start playing that will help me continue my climb in solo queue. Finally, I am looking forward to continuing Pandora’s Star since the beginning has been so exciting. Let’s hope the rest live up to it’s promise.
