Blaugust 2022 Day 14

Today I take a look at my desire for the latest Playstation console. Does this thing exist, or is it a figment of someone’s imagination?

The Rundown

  • Angels won, Padres lost

Surprisingly, my Angels won yesterday against the first-place Twins while the Padres lost. I’m sure part of the Padres’ troubles stem from the shock they must be feeling about the Tatis drug test and suspension, but I am hopeful that they will turn things around and get back to their winning ways. As for My Angels, I’m just happy for any win they can piece together. With Trout out, pitchers traded, and Rendon never playing, I am just surprised they are allowed to claim they are a major league team. I guess Ohtani makes them a legit team, but it is just sad to watch him try to carry this band of minor leaguers.

  • Batman Rises

I’ve seen this movie plenty of times, starting with a trip to the theater, but I still enjoy it. The opening scene is incredible, and I think the story, music, and acting all fit together to make this one of the best superhero films. Sure, there are some decent Marvel movies, but the Dark Knight trilogy was a step above most of the superhero stories. If only DC could put more products like this on the big screen.

  • Running 3.48mi

With things heating up, I’m starting to get my runs in earlier in the day. Right now, I am trying to get finished at least by 8 am but if I had my way, I would be done by 7 am. When the temperature is 80 degrees at 7 am and the humidity is 75%, running can get difficult. I usually find that I end up going a lot slower but surprisingly, I’ve been running faster this past week. Ok, I’m not really that fast, but when I see that my timings are 60 seconds a mile quicker, I am happy. Another week down, and I’m not up to 14 in a row.

The Goods

Where is my PS5?

The Playstation 5 is quickly approaching its 2nd birthday, and I have yet to physically see one. It’s almost as though Sony is following the script for President Biden in how they describe the fact that no one can get a PS5… it’s COVID… it’s the supply chain… it’s the Ukraine war… I’m sure they’d blame Trump if there were a way they could tie him into the Playstation.

Where is my PS5?

I’ve signed up for notification on numerous websites, and I put downpayments in a couple of stores, but I still don’t have a PS5. Wikipedia says they’ve shipped over 21 million, but I find that hard to believe. I’ve never seen one in a store, so how can there be 21 million that have sold? I suppose they could have sold 20 million in Japan and sprinkled the rest around the world, but TWO YEARS?

Where is my PS5?

I suppose the console is not even worth the effort at this point. None of the games that have been released seem to be so incredible that the PS5 is a must-have… they’re still releasing everything on the PS4 since they are not really making any PS5s. And even if I do happen to miraculously find myself able to purchase a PS5, I would not be able to play any games with my friends – who are in the same boat. None of them have PS5s either. And this is almost 2 years after the console was ‘released.’

Perhaps they should announce that they are ‘shipping’ the PS6 since they don’t really have to deliver any devices to claim they are producing them.

Where is my PS5?

I’ve purchased all the consoles in the past and have never seen such a lie as to availability. When the PS4 came out, I had one within a month of release. When the XBox360 came out, I had one the first week it was out. The switch, I held off a bit but grabbed one 6 months after it came out.

I suppose I should work on getting a Steam Deck. I’ve heard good things about it, and I’ve actually seen 2 of my friends who already received theirs. They love it, and that only came out six months ago. SIX MONTHS!!! They had to go through COVID, supply chain issues, and the war in Ukraine, but still, Valve was able to put those in people’s hands.

I am pretty sure one of two things are happening…either Sony is not really trying to produce PS5s to artificially create scarcity, or they really don’t care about their customers. Either way, I am reminded that Sony, in my view, has a horrible track record. They had the leading Handheld Personal Information Manager in the Clie, and they canceled that. They had one of the best laptops on the market with the Vaio, and I watched that slide into mediocrity.

I am really questioning if I should even bother trying to get a PS5 anymore, so I guess the answer is…

Where is my PS5? I don’t care.

It’s a Wrap

So the Playstation 5 is a thing. I’m not sure if it is real or if it is just a figment of some gamer’s imagination, but I am still trying to get one. Perhaps by the time the Angels get back into the playoffs, I’ll have one, but I’m not gonna hold my breath on either front.

In any case, I’m looking forward to making the rest of today a good one, and I hope you all have a great day.
