For some reason Saturday at the con was a bit chaotic. I didn’t have many panels that I was really dying to see and those panels that I did want to see were scattered in many rooms. This caused a problem in that I couldn’t go to one room and sit through a bunch of panels that I wanted to see. Instead, I spent quite a bit of time roaming through the exhibit hall checking out all the stuff to buy.
I did get to see a few panels though: The Awesomes, 12 Monkeys, Nerdist Industries, Comics 101: Making Sense of the World of Comics, and The Expanse.
The big thing this year appears to be the Pop! dolls. They were everywhere. I’m not sure how much they cost but some of the exclusives we’re going for upwards of $40 and $50 each. All this for a little six-inch or so figurine with a big head. They’re kind of cool and there are about a million of them for everything from Wolverine, Ironman and Thor to Cthulhu, My Little Pony, and Adventure Time.
One of the coolest things I think I saw this year are the nail wraps by Espionage Cosmetics. These come in a variety of styles including real nebula pictures, Bitch Planet comic book pages, dogs, cats, and all kinds of stuff. They basically are stickers that apply to your nails in a few minutes and you got very detailed designs and shapes that you have on your fingernails and it looks really cool. The circuitboard design and emojis along with the steam punk and vampire versions are also pretty neat.
Finally I went to my graphic novel book club meet up. I didn’t know there were so many people in the club across the city, but while my club only has 7 people, the other 3 clubs have 15 to 20 people each. In any case, we had over 40 people in the meeting and it was good to see everyone. I didn’t win any of the prizes, but it was fun seeing all the people with similar interests in one place.
