On Day 28 of #Blaugust I Rant and I Start New

Daily Ramble 24: I Rant and I Start New

I played a bit of League of Legends recently and had the wonderful pleasure of reporting a few players. One for intentional feeding, another for hate speech which is what I report when people throw out the ‘R’ word’ and another for AFK. Yeah, I played 4 games and only one resulted in a civilized match. This lead to my rant and suggestion as to how to treat uncivilized players. I also added the opportunity to read a couple of #1s from Marvel and I’m hoping when the new DC Universe service finally comes out I’ll be able to add those tomorrow easily to my reading list.

Banned Means Sent Back to Bronze

I was playing a bit of League of Legends the other day when it struck me that the punishment for bannable offenses are pretty meager. I mean so someone has to sit out a few games or they have to go without being able to type in chat – big whoop. Nah I think the penalty for verbal harassment and offensive hate speech, trolling and intentional feeding should be something that would really impact the perpetrator – send them back down to Bronze 5 or better yet creat a new level of ELO Hell that they have to climb out of. Force them to suffer with people who are living in ELO hell and make them learn that if they are gonna be uncivilized gamers they don’t belong in ranked gameplay. Make them climb through the new Hell division then put them back in Bronze 5 so they get to start over because of their poor behavior. I think it’s only fitting to push them outta the pool of players since no one wants to play with them anyway.

First X-Men and a Female Thor

I read through a couple of cool comics today and I think these ones are worth continuing – The X-Men #1 and The Mighty Thor #1. The X-Men is one of the highlights of the 1963 comics that I’ve been reading and I’m pretty impressed with how well the characters were set up right from this first issue. Stan and Jack really seemed to know where they were going with these guys. Sure, there is some sexism as we would consider it today but back in ’63 it was more accepted to show appreciation for a female character’s appearance. The first team was built of Beast, Iceman, Cyclops, Angel, and Jean Grey took on Magneto with support of Professor Xavier and it was a pretty good first issue.

The other comic I read was the 2015 edition of The Mighty Thor. Apparently something pretty significant happened that resulted in the previous Thor disappearing and Odin going a bit crazy. The bottom line is that Jane Foster is the new Thor and she’s looking to smite some evil elves. Freya is a prisoner and the leaders of the various realms are all walking on eggshells as they’re afraid what Odin will do next. Oh yeah – Jane Foster is also undergoing chemotherapy for cancer so she want stay as Thor if the medications don’t work. It’s a pretty good set up so far.

  1. I hate the ‘R’ word too and there are campaigns in Canada to get rid of its use (No good way). I know a person who was suspended for 1/3 of a hockey season (yiuth) for saying it on the ice. Sadly, gamers are notorious for using it as part of their “slang”

LOL wont do anything drastic because a large portion of their measurable profits come from people who believe those actions are ok. They can’t measure how much money they are losing by keeping them around, but they sure as hell know how much money they lose on each ban. Guaranteed that’s a measurable.
